Update on previous thread (Feb. 22.2023) regarding my cooling fans on 2003 Beetle TDI. Discovered the low speed was bad and repaired the resistors. DELAY due to Broken Leg on March 11 2023. They work now. Also the new Mahle RTS was defective and reinstalled the old one. Fans works as they should and discovered a ton of info with reviews of many (40-50) threads and sources. Following info are some of the details we needed to research cause of the problems :
VW Fans Wires and operation with RTS Tool 29mm or 1 3/16" Socket Size
Questions?
#1 Are cooling fans powered thru the FCM when only A/C & blower sw. & Ignition on? Yes No
#2 Where does the Fans 12V originate (fuse) when no A/C on & only KOEO ?
#3 With March 2003 Mgf (Not date May 03), will the #53 be a Fan Relay or will
we have one? yes or no?
#4 On the Rad.Thermal Sw, (RTS) the Red (#2) has 12V with A/C on, but if only int. blower and no A/C., is there 12V on #2 (Red) ? -- Yes No -- Due to the Mgf. Date, wiring confusion?
TIDBITS of Info: #5 & # 6
#1 Yes Fans, Both speeds are thru the FCM when A/C, system & Blower & Amb. Temp. Sw ,compressor Sw. are working correctly.
#2 12V either at the Green 30A or 40-A Strap fuses thru the FCM or 12V (30A) only direct from box top of Battery
#3 No, on Relay due to July completion Date. Car begun early but completed after change date.
#4 Yes on Rad Therm. Sw. (RTS). The Red #2 is powered direct from Green 30A fuse (Key off) on battery box & FCM with A/C, Key & sys. on.
#5 Green Top 30A fuse--- Slo-Blo or Time Delay. Not Regular ATO Green
#6 Radiator Thermal Switch Tool Deep Well Socket 29mm or 1 3/16" socket
