I bought this about two years ago. It was a one owner local San Jose CA car its whole life. Never in any accident. no body damage whatsoever and zero rust or corrosion

I set out to do a complete do over on it like I have done two time before on my other 2003 sedan/wagon. These mods have proven to be extremely durable, reliable, powerful and have NEVER given me one single problem in over a combined 140K miles of driving.

Lets start with the engine/transmission

1) VNT 17 turbo.
2) DLC 1019 injectors level 1 tune for efficiency and low to no smoke
3) Frank06 camshaft with new seals
4) 11mm injection pump with Viton seals
5) PD150 intake manifold
6) new 3bar map sensor
7) Stage 4 Malone tune.
8) Stage 1 Daily Southbend single clutch and pressure plate/ flywheel/TO bearing and rear main seal
9) .658 VW brand 5th gear.. Rpms @80 are 2400 instead of 2850
10) Dieselgeek short shifter
11) completely rebuilt transmission by Matt Phelan using a WAVE limited slip, new synchros
12) new dog bone mount
13) Continental timing belt, tensioner, water pump with a metal impeller, serpentine belt, and associated pulleys
14) New thermostat runs 198 like clockwork no matter what, increasing efficiency
15) all new vacuum hoses and vacuum pump
16) new g12 coolant

Suspension:

Bilstein B6 yellow shocks with stock springs.
front and rear Neuspeed swaybars
New front control arm bushings ( Audi TT)
New strut mount bushings front and rear
New bushings for rear suspension
New VW front axles NOT chinese or aftermarket crap.
Diesel Geek Panzer plate for front

Brakes:
GTi 288mm brakes front, new rotors and pads. GTi Calipers ( RED ) New Rear new rotors and pads
New Front brake rubber lines, brake fluid DOT4 flushed.

Interior:
NEW Headliner using the correct VW material and color
Excellent condition black leather front and rear, no rips or tears or broken down padding. They are NOT heated
ESP
Aluminum VW pedals,
leather steering wheel
Excellent glove box door, and center armrest. Nothing broken
Monsoon system with amplifier is intact but aftermarket JVC single DIN radio.. with bluetooth.. Works well with Apple Iphone. Actually decent sound!
Rear cargo cover is intact and working
Windows are all tinted 20% except of course the front windshield which btw is nice, no cracks and no leaks
No leaks anywhere
Moon roof works well.. sometimes has the phantom opening
All windows are programmed for auto down.. and they all work, all locks work with remote..
Carpet in nice condition Monster mats included

Exterior
Candy white original paint is in nice condition but not perfect.. Has a couple of small areas on roof and rear bumper that the clear is peeling ( paint underneath is fine tho)
No dents some minor dings
weatherstripping is nice and supple and again, no leaks

Has at the present time, VW BEETLE Turbo S wheels with good 225/45/17 tires. I do have the original 15 inch wheels with good tires on them if you would rather have that instead as they are more efficient than the heavy ass Turbo S wheels. Up to you...

Front and rear mud flaps are also available. I have a set of side skirts as well that are also available for 250.00 extra.

ALL OF THIS WAS DONE AT 278K MILES. CAR HAS 288K MILES... It needs NOTHING now or in the foreseeable future. If it was worn or could be replaced, it was.

I have done this exact modification on my two other 2003 TDI's. NEVER an issue or a problem ever. They are a dream to drive and are a proven design

I have secured myself a MK6 JSW 6 speed.. so one has to go. I dont need two white wagons.. and the blue one I have had for many many years and is my first born.. so the white wagon is the odd one out

No expense spared. All parts are the best of their kind and quality. I dont use cheap **** and all work was done by one person other than myself, noted Matt Phelan guru of the Northwest. There are NO shortcuts of any kind.

Best of all, its all subtle. You can NOT tell easily what I have done.. It looks like an unassuming 2003 Jetta wagon.

This car will go anywhere in comfort and speed all while getting 43 mpg all day long and 48 on the longer freeway drive.

I have done the ventectomy so you can get 16.9 gallons of diesel fuel.

AC works perfectly. No foam blowing through the vents either. Heat works great. All gauges work perfectly, no warning lights have ever illuminated

I am asking $9.5K

Price is absolutely firm

100s of pictures and video are available for the serious buyer. Original books manuals and keys, even the original window sticker is there.

Thanks

I have NEVER been able to post photos, thats why I gave you email, phone etc.... Serious sellers ALSO go through a lot of trouble to write a good post with good descriptions. You already know what a MK4 wagon looks like..

Nice. Not sure what the purpose of that last post was for but no comparison to a ALH. Thanks for the input?

I don’t have anything negative to say, sharing my experience.

My mom bought a 2006 Jetta TDI from Peter a couple years ago. It was low mileage, very nice and had similar work. This car was advertised on Craigslist and not listed on TDIclub for some reason. It had a clean Carfax report and some flaws but looked good for being 15 years old and 96k mikes. My only complaints about it are that the RCD330 never worked right with IPhones or CarPlay, it has a significant oil leak that appeared shortly after we got it home, the cheap Barum tires were junk and the LUK Repset clutch kit sucks and shudders under heavy load with the Malone stage II tune. Due to my foot being broken at the time I was unable to drive it during the pre-purchase negotiations to identify some of these issues.

We replaced the tires with Yokohama so that is taken care of. The other issues need to be addressed as time and money permit.

It was very expensive, I think she paid $11.5k. I told her not to buy it because it wasn’t worth that price, and she could never sell it for anywhere near that if it was time to move on. She bought it anyway because she needed a car because her 2003 Jetta TDI GLS was totaled in 5/2021. We were both injured in that wreck, and me as the driver, never fully recovered. Nonetheless she wanted something similar to what she had and the 2006 is more modern and bigger so she is happy regardless. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.

Basically, it’s worth whatever someone will pay for it. If somebody is willing to pay $12k or $10k that’s what it’s worth at that moment in time to that person who values it. If that person doesn’t exist then Peter will have a hard time selling it for his asking price.

Im disappointed in your thinly veiled attempt to make it look like I sold you a pile of rubbish. Your mother had plenty of time to drive it around and she did just that. I also gave you a few hundred dollars worth of filters even after you knocked me down 500 dollars. FYI I LOST money on that car. That was a one owner, rare MK5 campanella white on black leather 5 speed 2006 TDi with very low miles. . There is no so called value on it but what the person who knows and appreciates cars like this thinks its worth. Not really sure what all of the backround story was for.. had nothing to do with the car... The cheap Barum tires are just fine for that car. Not the greatest but round, black and had plenty of tread. Your choice to change them was just that. Yours. The radio is of that era and since it was before apple car play and any real bluetooth integration, Im not surprised.. Again.. has nothing to do with the ethics or integrity of the car. And Im starting to get annoyed with your intrusion into my post.

The clutch was brand new. Not sure if you broke it in correctly but that clutch is just fine for a malone stage two. I run malone stage 4 tunes on all my jettas and have the the run of the mill South Bend daily single disc clutch and they are as smooth as can be. I CAN tell you though that if you DID test drive it the way that you say you should have, I would have stopped the car and asked you to get out.

Your comments are really unhelpful and not really appreciated. They add nothing and state the obvious. Never heard from you after the sale except to ask if I knew anything about the smog check and tune issues.. Obviously that wasnt a problem BTW that tune costs 400.00. The clutch was 800.00. Brand NEW HELLA headights and You also got new glow plugs and synthetic oil as well as several oil and air filters and a car that will protect your mother. I dont sell crap and I do not appreciate the suggestion that I do

OH yeah.. did I forget to mention the BRAND NEW TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP??? or did you forget that as well..

Good Day.

My statements are factual Peter. I wish I had saved a screen grab of the original ad from when you had it listed on Craigslist. I assume you didn’t list it here because you would have been flamed hard for asking $12k for a 2006 Jetta TDI as this was before the used car prices got crazy. It also was not 1 owner, you were the 2nd my mother is the 3rd.

My mother drove it like a 70 year old retired woman would for over a year before I finally got to try it out. As a matter of fact I did not drive a manual transmission for over a year because of damage to tendons, joints and bones in my foot. The LUK Repset was a cheap complete $200 clutch kit w/ DMF back in 2021, I find it hard to believe you paid $800 dollars for it. It shudders under moderate throttle and is not suitable for a BRM with a stage II tune. “breaking in” a clutch disk has nothing to do with flywheel shudder either.

Not sure why you’re comparing a SB SMF to a Repset kit. They have nothing in common.

A G60/VR6 would have been perfect for this car and that’s what we plan on replacing it with.

You gave us 1 fuel filter and 2 or 3 oil filters. Plus the front dash trim fascia to replace the cracked one that was damaged during the RCD330 installation.

We changed the tires because they got hard and loud after a year. The noise and harsh ride was enough for her.

I asked you for the original tune file. Most people keep a copy of their stock file. You stopped responding so I stopped asking for your help. We bought a tunezilla and Malone helped us out with the stock file to get it smogged.

I did not test drive the car or was in a healthy position to check things like I normally would by sitting in the drivers seat: the head unit works as advertised, the stripped blend door clicking on the climatronic unit, the flywheel shudder, check for oil leaks, etc. I was just there to support my mom get a replacement Jetta for the one that was totaled. I didnt think it was worth what you were asking but she was emotional and needed a car so she bought it anyway.

Most people lose money when they sell a car, if mods are done they rarely add value. That’s how it works. I don’t know what you paid for this 2006, but it’s possible you broke even or made some $$ on it. Those tires and the clutch kit are bottom tier replacement parts like someone would use for flipping a car for quick profit.

I’m sure someone will buy your Jetta wagon. Try Craigslist, there are potential buyers out there who don’t check the forums.

Good Luck Peter!

From the outside looking in: On a tuned BRM manual trans, a SMF may not be the wisest flywheel choice. Some have experienced failure of the differential bolts resulting in cracked transmission cases. Those transmissions can be difficult to source.
