I got a 2010 tdi jetta cjaa motor deleted and tuned it’s been running great for 6 months since I put it together I had a front spring break and couldn’t fix for a while so the car sat for two months and I got the spring installed I went to drive the car and now it has a p0299 code from sitting for two months anyone got any ideas on what the problem might be? I looked in the turbo it’s self an nothing looked damaged or destroyed and help on what to check would be greatly appreciated!

Likely a boost leak. Do the VNT control output test with a suitable scan tool and watch to see if the actuator moves up and down, that's verify the control side is working. If it doesn't, find out why. If it does, then start looking over the charge air tract for a boost leak.

How would I go about looking for a boost leak a smoke machine?

It depends. Does the turbo boost at all? Or does it try to, and then go into limp mode and set the P0299?

If it doesn't do anything, and it is due to a leak, it should be pretty easy visually to find. Look for an oily stain, maybe even a charge air hose blew clean off. The charge air tract tubes on these are fine with stock cars, but once you crank the boost up, they can split at the ends where the internal steel support is, and split right up the side.

So chances are the control side is fine, you just need to start looking over the charge air tract for something that looks like it is pushing oil out.
