Two electrical quirks?

Further to the above, it appears that my driver’s door-open-sense-switch doesn’t work. Today when I unlocked the driver’s door, got in, put the key in the “ignition”, (without starting the engine), the doors soon locked and the alarm went off. I know that the car is supposed to re-lock the doors and re-arm the alarm if you unlock the car and don't open any doors. When the system sensed the driver’s seat occupied with the alarm system armed, it went off. The inside door lock switches and window switches were disabled. I had to use the key fob to disarm the alarm.

Does anyone know where the driver’s door switch is located?

If it's anything like the trunk latch in my Jetta, it'll be inside the latch mechanism. It's a separate switch that can be replaced independant of the entire latch mechanism.

I had a similar problem with the trunk of my Jetta. Problem solved after replacing that switch.

Max,

Yep........we had the exact problems with our '01 Golf. We let it go a little longer and had a few extra problems. The exterior handle required two pulls to open the door after unlocking it and the little safety light on the bottom of the door wasn't working. The dealer installed a new locking mechanism and it cured all the problems. All your problems except the sunroof are related to this locking mechanism. Can't answer your sunroof question....we keep ours fully opened as much as possible

I have noticed two quirks on my 2000 Golf GLS. Does your car behave like this or do I have problems?

When I leave the car unlocked for a while and then open the drivers door, the interior lights don’t come on right away. It takes 10 seconds before they light up. When I open any of the other doors, the interior lights come on immediately. This might have been so all along. The car is usually locked and the interior lights come on as soon as I unlock either by key or key fob.

The smallest opening I can get of the sunroof is 3”. Is this normal? I would sometimes like to have it open less than that.

I've had the same thing with the door locks, but with both front doors. Just the other day, I had both open and the alarm sounded. I'm planning to have it fixed at the next maintenance interval (20K miles).

Thanks to you all for clearing this up. I will get the door latch fixed next time I visit the dealer. Meanwhile, I will have to start the engine as soon as I get in, or else, briefly open and close one of the other doors to disable the alarm.

Does anyone know what the minimum opening of the sunroof is?

your minimum opening sounds about the same as mine. The size of the opening isn't as finely adjustable as the selector would imply.
