twisted hood

Hello,

Has anyone else had problems with their hoods?
The hood on our 2001 NB wouldn't open.

When it went in for the 5000 mile oil change, the dealer tried to fix it, and gave it back with the hood down so tightly on one side that there was no clearance between the hood and the body.

Concerned that this was chipping the paint, it went in to the dealer again and this time it came back with the hood bent to the extent that it has to go to a body shop.

Anyone know offhand what the correct clearance is?

Thanks

I hate to hear stories like this. This sounds like a classic case of incompetence (eg. little dent, big hammer). Although I don't own a NB, there is always a way of 'legitimately' adjusting body parts, to give you proper reveals on all sides. In addition, there are adjustable stops to allow proper fit and function when latching or unlatching it. To 'tweak' or bend is at the end of the list. Some parts, this is the recommended procedure, but not for trunks, hoods or doors unless it's a last resort, and then with proper finesse. In short, make them replace your hood, not just 'fix' it.

I wouldn't let this dealer work on anything else if I were you. Find another VW dealer in your area to maintain your car and warrantee. Once found, write your current dealer (sales manager or higher) and let them know exactly why you have taken your business elsewhere.

By the way, check your oil level too and make sure they didn't overfill it. If so, go out there, drag the Service Manager out and show him. Make him write it up and enter it into your service record. When your cat fries, make them replace it, regardless of mileage.

Avoid these guys like the plague. Your time and trouble expended is a direct result of their carelessness and incompetence and the quality of your NB has been compromised in the process.

do many of the service department types at this "dealer" breathe through their mouths??

ratchet up the pressure - also notify VW0A regional office or national office about this bunch of clowns.
