turn signal suddenly stops working

The turn signal suddenly stopped working on my 2005 Passat TDI. I imagine I will need to replace the switch. I am just wondering, might a shot of w40 make it work again? Or does that only work for weird clicking? I checked the fuses, they are fine. Also the hazard lights work.

mine was on the fritz for a while, clicking fast until I sprayed keyboard cleaner on it. helped for a while and then i replaced the unit.

I've strayed electronic contact cleaner is the base of the stalk and that fixed the weirdness.

Well, changing the emergency flasher relay fixed my turn signal. Reading other threads on this forum helped me figure it out. Thanks!
