I have a Sportsvan with the engine code CXXB (EA288). It is currently in Stage 1 and has 145HP. However, I want to increase it to 175-185hp for more fun. For this, I plan to replace the stock 04l253016h turbo with a Golf GTD(04L253010H gtd1449vz) turbo.

The primary goal is not to get high power, but to get power (fun) with as little engine wear as possible.

Due to technical control problems in France, the DPF and EGR will remain in place. Also, I would like to remind you that if it is detected, the fine for this is more than 7000€. However, there are still people who do this.

Do you have any technical tips for me before I talk to my programmer? For example, I have heard that some programmers increase the fuel delivery without pushing the turbo at all, in which case the fuel consumption will increase regardless of how the car is driven. I have read that some people set it up to have power available when needed without affecting fuel consumption in normal use.

That's exactly what I need. More power at my feet when needed.

I have read that some people have replaced their injectors with 2.0tdi injectors but I don't think that would be necessary in my case.

Is the low rpm performance dependent on the programmer? I don't want it to die as I try to drive my car in high gears a lot in the city. I am currently happy with the low rpms of my car and I am attaching the latest dynamometer graph for reference. I still think it should be a bit livelier after 120km/h.

In short, I want to get as many ideas as possible while I am in the planning stages.

Darkside developments took the 1.6 cr tdi upto over 250bhp before it broke, seems like a tough little lump.

Thanks. As I already said, around 175hp will be enough for me. I am aware that this is only a 1.6 tdi and I don't want more than 175hp. Still, I have seen people who tune this engine to +190hp. But I don't care. My goal is to go a little higher with a maximum budget of 600-700€. Otherwise, I can add 2000€ and buy a 2.0 tdi version of this car, but I love my car anyway. I bought it 2 years ago from a VW dealer with a 1-year warranty. The previous owner used it very carefully and it was almost like new. It has been maintained only by the dealer throughout its history. So I don't plan to change the car.

Since I do all the maintenance myself, I plan to do the turbo change myself. It will only go to a programmer for the software.

Yeh I'm just saying how the engine is pretty tough but I feel the same, about 170bhp or so would be perfect. I also would like to do mine on the cheap, fit the turbo myself etc but no idea what fits yet. Mine uses the Borg Warner turbo I believe, started as a 90 but now at 130 with custom mapping.

The quickest way to find the right turbo is to find the engine series. You can find it in the service and repair documents of the service. You can then search for the turbo references of the most powerful vehicle in the same engine series. For example, for me the engine series is EA288. In this series there are 2.0 150hp tdi and 2.0 184hp tdi. So the screw connection points and the pipe inlets/outlets remain the same. What is your vehicle?

In your case it looks like you need to use a cr170.

Original turbo reference numbers
03L253016A, 03L253016AV, 03L253016AX, 03L253016H, 03L253016HV, 03L253016HX

170HP turbo reference numbers
03L253010D, 3L253056C, 03L253010F, 03L253010FX, 03L253010FV, 03L253010E, 03L253010EV, 03L253010EX

I need to switch from 04l253016h turbo to 04L253010h turbo. Can you spot the connection in the numbers?
