You don't need one. The exhaust temps from a diesel are way lower than for a gasoline engine.

If you've just driven straight up a mountainside flat out, and pulled into a rest stop immediately, and it took less than 1 minute from the time you first cut power to the engine (i.e. when you started coasting on the highway) until you're parked in a parking spot, then perhaps let it idle for a minute. Otherwise, the low-speed drive through neighborhoods and parking lots that most people have at either end of a commute are plenty of time for cool-down.

I tow a trailer with my car. I don't worry about it. 227,000 km, no turbo problems.

Hi, I have a 99.5 Jetta GLS TDI. I am curious if it possible to install a turbo timer most likely intended for a gas car into my VW(http://www.hksusa.com/html/turbotimers.htm) ? Would a TDI benefit the way gasser’s do from a Turbo timer? I have a shop manual so I think I should be able to install it.

Thanks in advance. I wasn’t sure what forum to enter this into.

The turbo-timer is unneccessary. there are plenty of aftermarket turbotimers, and they'll work with the tdi just like with the gassers, if you choose to install one. let us know if you do though, and how you like it! if you have an EGT guage that could also help with info on wether or not the turbo timer helps out with stuff...
