Hum, sorry I missed it in your thread.
So let's get one of these Vband kit, thanks for your help

I'll start a new thread soon, when I have my LP.
It should be a gt3067s (page 52 on this topic), I'm still bargaining :)

400bhp diesel only

Hi guys I'm new to posting here, I've recently started rebuilding my ASZ engine for a project car, the engine will be going into a 1.9tdi mk2 Octavia estate 4x4.

I'm hoping to be running 400bhp diesel only when it's up and running but struggling to find a turbo that'll work, was wondering what my options are, will be looking to run at least 3.4 bar single turbo setup.

So far I've found two capable turbos the gtb3576klnrv or the BW S356v, finding it hard to find a gtb3576 anywhere though and according to darkside the S356 would have to be top mounted which I'm not too keen on unless completely necessary. Any idea if the 3576 could be bottom mounted? Or any other turbos that could hold that pressure and be bottom mounted?

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Adam.

The only thing that should force a top or bottom mount are clearances to the firewall, engine mount and steering rack. Not a big fan of spaghetti tubular headers myself... questionable performance benefits over an OE log-type manifold, and you should be able to adapt one for the flange of whichever turbo you choose. Different OE manifolds have different outlet flange positions - some hug closer to the engine block than others, which is what you want if maintaining a bottom mount is desirable. For accessibility (not to mention appearance), most people opt for the top mount, which also places the oil return drain at a more favourable and necessary position above the corresponding hole above the oil pan. I've even seen some builds with these big turbos straddling over the gearbox for space.

I prefer the GTB3576KLNRV myself, but they are harder to come by than the BW S356V, and the latter has many fans and users here. A single turbo setup with one of these big boys will benefit from the quicker spool thanks to the ball bearings in the former, and even better if you can adapt to directly use an electronic actuator off the N75 PWM signals without converting to a vacuum actuator.

Thanks for quick reply, my thoughts on the tubular manifold would be reduced throttle response and increased egt's due to the increased distance to travel, certainly no expert and haven't researched but that would be my thoughts on them.

Hoping to keep it looking as stock as possible even under the hood but if necessary I'll just have to bite the bullet and go for the top mount. Yeah I'm struggling to find a gtb3576klnrv it seems like they were only used on the hino ranger for Japanese market? :(

Any other options or would those be the only two?
Would the electronic actuator have much benefit over the vacuum setup?

got one of the gtb3576klnrv on the shelf here from a hino 7.7
it really feels like normal journal bearings to me, nowhere near how the shaft feels on all the other ball bearing turbos I've felt. Maybe mine's just junk?

This may be the wrong section to ask this, but does anyone know the torque spec for the copper crush nuts on the ea288 tdi gtd1449vz (putting the cr190 turbo on my cr150)?

Anyone know of a similar sized turbo as the GT2052?
https://www.garrettmotion.com/racing-and-performance/performance-catalog/turbo/gt2052/

I need something for a small compound setup I'm building. But I'm not a fan of the flanges arrangement of that tractor turbo LOL

Thanks!

Greg
What's wrong with that one? :p

The MHI TD04L is a good similar sized candidate. The 5cm housing flows slightly less (turbine choke flow) and the 6cm housing flows slightly more than the GT20 A/R .50. The TD04L-13T-6cm from Subaru applications would work very well, but flanges are non standard.

Also some small frame Holsets will be good candidates. I had great success with HE200WG-5cm as HP turbo.

What LP turbo will you be using? HP goal?

I'm looking for a no wastegate turbo since I have a external wastegate the only thing I could find is gt2052s but then I could only find Chinese stuff.

The compound is not to make insane power numbers it is just to fight the altitude for Pikes peak hill climb.

The turbo selection is for now is gt2052s and G25-550

Power is 320HP and pressure 45PSI

I used the gt2052s from LPT 2.3 saab motors as an HP turbo, at around 35 psi intake manifold, with 15 psi interstage

the thrust bearings lasted less than 5000 miles, I put in the bigger GT25 thrust components and they lasted... 5k miles or so
Later on I moved to a td04 HP running 45-50 psi IMP and 15-20 psi interstage, again the stock thrust bearings did not last long, but an updated part with two oil feed holes in the thrust bearing has now lasted 30k or so
which is to say, I'd recommend skipping the garrett for HP service, they are very lightly built for such severe service

I do 300 miles per year. I can change the turbo every race. My concern was will it hold for 100-200miles ??

Thanks for your input 486

None of these have any wheel dimensions listed, but since i made this list, i want to share it among you all.
They are somewhat in order concidering flow/streetability/spool.

This is my list for suitable 1.9TDI turbos ranging from ~180bhp all the way to ~500bhp.

hello ! Anyone have any idea of this turbo? the turbo is ball bearing.
in exhaust it's F10 bmw.

From what I can tell it's a custom version of one of these two turbos, but I can't say that with a 100% certainty, so take this info as my best guess.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself will chime in.

If you could upload some more pictures of some different angles would help out too.

Here is a Clover 16vts off a Toyota Landcruiser 4d4.

Fitting to my Mitsubishi L200 DiD.

Specs a similar to GTB 22 series with variable vane.

Turbo: Clover 16vts
Compressor: 39/41.8/58
Turbine: 47.6/50.9
Shaft:5.10mm (close to GTB 5.08 mm)

They run 18 psi standard but I have rengineered mine to take 32 psi+ with 360 thrust bearing (270 stock)

I have fitted it to a 2.0 TDI 150hp and tuned to 220-230bhp 450Nm. Works good so far with 2.15 bar rel. boost. DPF and EGT is the limitation there.

Hey guys, I just bought a GTB2259VKLR to replace my old GTB2056VK. The turbo is buried behind the engine and it's near impossible to replace so im worried I got the wrong turbo. The new engine is built and the heads flowed. With the S300sxe blowing into the 2056 I'm getting 498HP/670NM with race tune at 60psi. We had to stop giving it fuel because the 2056 was maxed out. I got the 2259 because I know I can get it to fit and I know it's going to flow more with minimal loss of spool but...did I make a good choice? Is there a GTD or better turbo? I would rather modify the s300 that's easy to replace. It's a 3.0L eco-diesel
Thanks!

I've always wondered if some compressor inducer designs are better than others when being compounded instead of sucking air? Does it make a difference?
Thanks!

The HP stage is not your limitation if you're stuck at peak power. You could upgrade the rotating components of your existing S300 or move up to an S400. Monitor manifold and interstage pressures and temperature on both the exhaust and intake sides to know where your real bottlenecks are. Monitoring turbo shaft RPMs along with the former data will tell you exactly where you are on the respective maps and help inform you mathematically of the best course of action to take instead of by guesswork.

I had, actually had the gtb2056vk at first and I then put a 2259 wheel in the VK. The tune was optimized for the 2056 and I didn't have time to get some testing and numbers before the engine started dying. It worked pretty well but I had significantly less spool from idle and I lost about 10mpg. EGTs were better. Yes, I'm guessing that I might be happier with GTB2259VKLR + billet compressor wheel+flowed heads+optimized tune. Im shopping for a billet wheel. Should I consider a 2260? I read about the pros and cons of 6+6 and 11 bladed wheels but it didn't talk about a compounded system. Can I replace the compressor wheel with billet myself or does it need to be rebalanced? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I cant find any maps for the GTBs even if I thought I was knowledgeable enough to make an educated guess.
I have a dynograph with the GTB2056VK that I wanted to post but I can't figure out how to post a pic, lol.

You're not hearing me. The HP stage (smaller of the two turbos) is not what's constaining you from more power. It's the big unit.

When it was getting Dyno'd the tuner said that the HP was maxed out and that it was going to pop from the pressure. Are you sure?
