Hey all, Picked up a 2009 Jetta 6 spd needing a turbo. its a single owner car that seemed well taken care of. After fighting with the DPF and EGR, I pulled the motor and its now sitting on a stand. I am not very familair with TDIs, I have diesel trucks so am semifamiliar with the Fuel systems and diesel in general. The clutch looks like it has alot of life left but aside from a turbo what if anything would you recommend i do while its out of the car.

The PO mentioned the DPF light would come on periodically.. I imagine thats indicating a regen? he said he just brought it on the highway for 30 minutes and the light goes away. is there any conditioner or treatment for the exhaust system while its out?

I plan to repalce the Turbo, Timing set, Water Pump, Glow Plugs and harness, the DPF/DEF Sensors in the exh piping... LMK if you have any recomendations on where to get the turbo, pref not used since its such a pain to get to. LMK what you think, thanks.

Edit, So i found w replacement turbo site that offers their version of 03L 253 016K / BV43B-0130 turbo that was in the car or OEM replacements. Search Results (turbochargersdirect.com) has a Borg Warner BV43 replacement for 700$. Does anyone have any experience with this company?.

not sure about your source, but an OE or OEM part is what it is no matter where it comes from.
i was going to get mine from IDParts (a trusted vendor around here), but went with a hybrid (bigger, cuz why not...right?) unit from XMan in england.

your DPF either needs to be replaced or deleted.
there is a metric TON of info on that topic here.
check the sticky topic in TDI 101 forum.

You didn't post your mileage, but generally turbos on these TDIs are pretty rock-solid and go for hundreds of thousands of miles.

There's other issues that can cause failures to generate boost that don't rise to the level of replacing the turbo.

I checked out your link, the BV43 replacement for $700 is a reman. You said you prefer not used, I think the consensus here is that a re-manufactured turbo is equivalent to junkyard used. That three year warranty they offer won't cover your engine replacement if the shaft seals are bad right out the gate and you have an oil-fed runaway.

Like @borninabus said, ID Parts is a trusted vendor here. There's a couple others, but they're priced around the same, $1200-1300 for a genuine new OEM part. https://www.idparts.com/borg-warner-cr170-turbocharger-cbeacjaa-03l253016g-53039880207-p-4090.html

If you're flipping for a sale, the reman should be fine. If you're planning to keep for reliable transportation, I'd go with OEM.

The Shaft broke and a peice of the housing cracked away. Im really familiar with VWs, just not the TDi. I am also repalcing a turbo on my CBFA 09 GTI. I ended up buying a 'new' turbo for the TDi from FCPEuro which is local to me to save me from the heartache.

I think its wise to just repalce all of the prssure sensors on the DPF/ 02s etc. I might sell the car, unsure. I miss the fuel econ and could use the mileage.

That would do it, lol. Could have been worse and filled with oil and ran away.

I can't advise about the DPF sensors, as my expertise is on my Mk5 BRM. Hopefully some others can chime in.

Correct about the mileage. You can't beat 40+ MPG on a car that's a joy to drive.
