TURBO: Part Numbers & Build Dates [data collection thread for all members]

Moderator Note:

This thread is a split-off data collection thread for ALL Passat owners to participate in. The purpose of this thread is to collect data on turbocharger part numbers and vehicle build dates. Collecting this information in one place will allow us to see trends in failures and determine when turbocharger revisions were released to the market and how reliable each revision is.

Please limit this thread to data collection only.

Information to share in this thread...

• Build date of your car (found on the data plate in the driver's door jam) (MONTH/YEAR)
• Turbocharger part number (including V### at the end)

If you can, feel free to post a picture of the data plate on the turbo.

If you have had a turbo failure, try and get the part number off of your failed turbo as well as the one on the replacement turbo.

I think it will be nice to track in a seperate thread. this way we can identify similarities and when more failures are reported maybe we can determine a common theme of sorts.

can you please post a simple guide no where the label is located and what's the best/easiest way to get the best picture?

It's so hard to tell. Here it looks like an E. I really want to disconnect that black connector to get in for a better pic but I'm not f'ing around with stuff I'm unfamiliar with:

I think folks should post the exact build date. If you don't know where to find that, look at this post for guidance. Hint: its not on the driver's door frame.

I just held the phone in a comfortable position and tapped the screen to focus on the data plate. I zoomed in the original full-resolution picture and took a screen shot - nice clear image.

There was no V number on mine

Sure did - no idea what it means. Its significance is 2nd hand information and impossible to prove.

So what do we do? Continue collecting part numbers and build dates until we have enough information to establish a trend.

So I guess it's re-manufacture one, so it could bearing surface re-applied only.
