Turbo "kicking in" question

06 bought new with 45K miles. Previous car was an 00 we bought new and put 200K on. When driving this car you could hear the turbo "kickin" around 2000 rpm but not a lot of noticeable power. I try and shift around 3000 rpm to have the motor at 2000 when the next gear is engaged. Of course some of the time when the next gear goes in it is around 1700 rpm. Upon steady acceleration there is a noticeable boost of power when the turbo kicks in around 2000 rpm. Everyone else have this? Thanks, cody

Look around here and find a dyno chart for a 2006, you will see that the Tq climbs very slowly until about 1800 rpm or so. This is very useful when it is slick out and you are trying to get moving... just keep the rpm down and the car starts on snow pretty good.
For performance keep the rpm above 2000 and you have POWER.

Get your car chipped, you won't regret it.

Thanks all. The 00 must have had a different turbo, wore out, never had the intake cleaned, etc. I just never could feel it as well.
