Hi All,

(Audi a4 1.9 Tdi Avant 130 BHP AVF manual 2003)

Since i brought my car the turbo appears to be kicking in very late having driven other 130 BHP TDi's in the VAG range it appears sluggish.

I would expect the turbo to start to kick in at 1400-1600 revs but only starts to around 2,200 revs

A local mechanic diagnosed a MAF sensor - this was replaced and i felt the turbo to be more responsive but again only after 2,200 - 2,400 revs

it is especially sluggish in 1st 2nd gear and in the 6th gear - it tends to just stick at 2000 revs for a while in the 6th and take a long time getting speed / revs - but the revs do go up in the high end 4000 plus - so not restricted

going uphill again it just sticks to one speed with little to no acceleration / revs

the cars done 155k - but i driven an A6 with the same engine on an auto transmission with 480k on the clock ! and it pulls so much better then mine

ive done the below

1, MAF replaced not fixed.
2, removed MAP sensor - car was completely sluggish with no turbo at all
3, replaced MAP with another one - no cure
4, OBD diagonstics showed desired boost pressure and actual boost pressure to be very similar and the mechanic suggested that my engine shakes in certain revs and it could be injectors -

has anyone had similar symptoms should i be now looking to replace the N75 value - ( boost pressure solenoid / controller )

thanks !

Vac leak would be my first plce to check, not sure on your audi but on the likes of the 2003 passat there's a couple of plastic pipes run round the back of the engine that can get worn through, seen that one before.

That turbo should spool nicely fairly low having the same size turbine as the vnt15, mine certainly did.

will i need to take it to a garage with one of those smoke leak testers. ?

I notice like a grind type of noise when i let go of the accelrator under the bonnet - could that be air ?

definantley not the gearbox - as i had another gearbox / new cluthkit / flywheel replaced and it was the same before / after

The mechanic who changed the MAF - i assume he ran the diagnostics and replaced the MAF and job done .....he test drove it after i complained it hasnt fixed my problem and agreed its kicking in too late...but didnt bother to do a physical diagnostics - (leak test / physical turbo etc )

i asked him about this and he said it cannot be a vaccuum leak as the computers showing the boost is OK.

will find a garage where they can do a vaccuuum leak test and let you guys know what the outcome is. cheers

try another MAF. It could be dfective...it happens. I had a 2000 golf TDi a long time ago. Had the same problem. Also, stand beside the mecchanic when he changes it, just to be sure he installs the new one, unless you do it yourself. It is a simple procedure.

thanks SPIDR - i didnt stand by him when he changed it . i know a guy with the same engine code but didnt have those annoying 5 star security torx - common ones are 6 pointed torq

I have Since my last post taken it to another mechanic who showed me a diagnostics showing a ECU fault - not responding....so i brought another ECUand had the Immobiliser disabled on it so i can run it on my car ......same problem so there goes another £120 with no fix.

another mechanic has looked at it and checked the turbo - and it builds up pressure..the thick rubber intercooler pipe becomes hard.

he Also took the pipe to the EGR off and showed me its clean and not clogged

he also run diagnostics VCDS and put it on a test where the car accelerated on its own and showed me the wastegate pin going up and down and said it cannot be the actuator

There is a dry grinding noise when i let go of the accelerator and when he heard that he concluded its the turbo turbine hitting against the turbo walls internally and suggested i get a reconditioned turbo charger. he said it is not sticky turbo vanes as the actuator pin is going up and down.

up hill it seems to stick to 2000 revs with my foot fully down and would reach teh next notch on the rev counter at 2200 revs after 30-40 seconds are these obvious symptoms to someone who might have had same issues ?

should i now spend a potential £300 on a recon turbo and not know if it will cure my issue ? or any other suggestions would be appreciated

Hi All - still no resolution to this issue......another Mechanic lol

he claimed it was a blocked catalyst ....had it cleaned out...no result,

Im in 2 minds if it's the Turbo as it picks up speed pretty well above 2k revs until your in 6th gear so ive now booked it in for diagnostics at a independent VAG specialists - let see what they have to say.

Hi All - just wasted loads of money on a replacement turbo
...no result

I now drove the car with the MAF plug disconnected - NO warning lighst come up on the dash - is that strange ?

Also i noticed it picks up speed better from the 1100 - 1400 rev range ..but still not good....it still shows the same symptoms in 5th / 6th gear struggling to pick up speed or the revs going much highter then 2200-2400 revs

Im not sure what i should do now ...anyone help ??

hi all
I've got a audi a3 8p 2.0 tdi 140 and sadly the turbo just start kicking too late, when it happens i did have a warning light and when i plugged the obd to check the code it come up as "turbo charge boost control position sensor A circuit range/ performance" P2563 does anyone knows what is position sensor A? all I've done so far was check all the pipe work supply to the turbo waste gate and fond no leaks or damage, test the N75 vacuum valve by removed and energize the valve with 12v and it work however when i blew the intake air vacuum i wasn't very happy with the volume of air passing through the valve, almost like the air flow was restrict " the air not flowing freely" i was need to blow really hard for the air to pass through the valve, on my scanner i can monitor the MAP sensor and its reading ok around 14.6 psi in idle however i don't know how much aspect to see, and the MAF i also got some reading but the readings are very low and again i don't know what is the normal reading for air volume on it. After checked all that reset the warning light and went for a drive, the warning lite came back after few yards, well stopped the car removed the key and restarted the car, no warning light was show, drove the car very slow try to keep the revs below 1400rpm never have warning light until i put my feet down, i repeated all again but this time the warning light reset it self and never came back. the problem is, the turbo still kicking too late around 2200rpm and no warning light.
i have order a new N75 valve should be with me next week.
i would appreciate if anyone could help.
cheers
