Hello,

I have stage 2 JR auto tune and thinking of keeping car for off road use, and considering deleting the DPF/EGR. Do you think it’s high for tuners to charge $250, when you have existing stage 2 tune, and need to tune out the EGR & DPF or is pretty standard charge/pricing?

Also, car will possibly end up with either hybrid CR170 turbo, or possibly the 1756VRK. And, does EGR Cooler need to be removed, or can just do the block off plates?

I’m just thinking if I pay $250 to tune out the DPF and EGR might be good to explore and try other tuners. Oh and, Rocket Chip is not possible, as I don’t believe the man really exists lol jk

I’m in the Toronto GTA area and looking at some local tuners. Other than Malone, anyone have experience/feedback with Diesel Dna Tuning out in BC? Or, Mecevo in Quebec? I’m really after a smokeless tune and reliable track record of tuning with upgraded turbos. I even considered driving and dropping car off to one of the Quebec tuners, I just don’t know who is “good”.

Any help feedback appreciated

Cheers,

Ron

If you're after a tuner with a reliable track record of tuning CR170 and larger turbos then Malone is probably your best bet. As for the prices, it's tough to say if the emissions delete fee is fair without knowing the initial cost.

If they’ve already tuned your car, $250 sounds high.

You don’t need to remove the EGR cooler, but you will during the turbo swap to have enough room getting them in and out. Also it’s like 50lbs and ugly so just remove it when you have time.

I only have experience with Malone and I highly reccomend them, however I’m sure Darkside Developments or Kerma would also be good options. If you go with someone local, just make sure they have successfully tuned TDIs before, wouldn’t want to be their test case. With Malone, Darkside, or Kerma it’s easy to do it yourself with their programmer.

yeah I had them tune the car and didn’t think it would be that much to tune out DPF&EGR but I guess with the Covid inflation...sounds about right these days!

Yeah I might just make the jump over to Malone but will poke at Buzzken one more time.

Thanks

Ron
