Wheaton Service Center has been removed from the list.

Compu_85 and I inspected BATDAX's car and it appears that when Wheaton replaced her alternator pulley a few weeks ago, they didn't tighten the nut on the charge cable properly when reinstalling it. That nut vibrated loose over time, ultimately resulting in a no-charge situation. Wheaton put their charging system tester on the car and it showed that the alternator was bad - obviously, since it was no longer connected - and condemned it and the cable without any further inspection.

BATDAX went back and explained what we had found, and they made excuses rather than apologizing and refunding the diagnostic fee that they had charged.

Long Island New York shop to do 09' Jetta TDI T-belt kit installation. Have yet to find anyone on this site. Guys in NJ won't work for us, need some one local. And what would be considered a fair price w/ and without parts?
thanks,

I had a great service experience at Water Wagens. This is a private owned TDI repair shop in Scipio IN. Caleb runs the shop and knows TDI's very well.

Go ahead and tell us what you had done there. Moderators will consider adding them to list.

Timing belt (full job including belts, pulleys, tensioner, water pump), air filter, fuel filter, oil and oil filter (505 spec), replaced vacuum line, valve cover gasket, vehicle inspection, cleaned intake manifold, egr delete, and adjusted the injection quantifier value. Pretty fair price as well I might add.

I guess I am nominating myself.
1. tools for timing up to dieselgate.
2. brake and suspension tools.
3. vag-com
4. I can come to your baby if needed
5. auto to manual 2
6. timing belts dozens
7. I follow the rules on one time use bolts ( nobody wants to have their engine fall out !)
8. injector puller.
9. lift kits.
10. exhaust sock replacement. ( good all stainless cheap ones last 3 years in the rust zone)
11. $30 hr for labor, tb work based on model can do for under $600 parts included no problem if you prefer to supply your of parts!

Looking for referrals!!! I have at least two members I do work for and with. 12 regulars.
I don't discriminate so gassers are ok but have yet to do a vr6 timing belt as I don't possess the dual cam lock. No balance shaft jobs!
I can work within your budget and inventory most common parts, one ip one the shelf alternator, suspension pieces, bolts and pillage junkyards for those pieces that break and fall off, several armrests, seat heater switches, coded double din radio, gloveboxes, etc.

I'd just like to put in a plug for mittzlepick. He's done a bunch of work for me including the tacotaco intercooler and a complete buzzken exhaust.

He really knows his stuff with the TDI's, having worked with diesel VW's for decades. He's familiar enough to know exactly which bolts go where based on the type (torx, triple square, allen, 12 point, etc. You know the drill with VW).

Excellent mechanic, he's come to my house with his own tools and collection of spare parts. Eventually he'll learn to charge a lot more, but for now take him at $30/hr - it's a great deal.

I would like to add my name to the list for the Houston,Texas area. I only do on-site timing belt service work although I have had a few unscrupulous customers convince me to do more like clutch R&R etc., but I am usually good at saying no. I do about one timing belt work a month as it typically is a weekend job. I have all of the tools to do from 1996 through 2011 TDIs.

He's fine, he just wants folks to know he's out there, he asks for referrals, which is prim and proper. The moderators will sort it out in time.............

Autowerkstat is an amazing general VW mechanic, but Chris does not do anything TDI-specific (have used him before for basic stuff, awesome, generally booked 4-6wks out).
Was not aware that Bugformance did any TDI-specific work, either.
Can anyone chime in on this?

For better results, see if you can find a regional forum and ask that question there.
Supposedly the folks on our list are vetted.

Can't really ad yourselves people... You have to be vetted by several customer. Read the initial thread please.
I'll give mittzlepick a referral.

While he has not worked on my car specifically (that pleasure resides with the fool who owns it) I have seen him work on numerous other cars and he does good work. He even welded up a Diesel truck frame and did such I good job I thought he took it to a professional shop to have it done.

Mike has borrowed my Vag-Com (when his computer died) and various specialty tools on occasion when his were loaned out or he needed something specific he didn't yet possess, so I know he's all about performing the work properly. He's easy to get along with as well, which is a very good thing. The guy can do just about anything.

Mike is a one man show working from his home and is great with TDIs as he owns/ has owned several. He did what he termed "gender reassignment surgery" to my 2001 Jetta, switching out the automatic for the standard transmission from my last TDI. Very competent, very reasonable rates. Also did my timing belt when he was in there and fixed a few other things I didn't know about.

Please put Matt98-AHU's shop up on the list. I can't believe I haven't updated our info. Completely my bad.

I'm going to guess that the reason no action has been taken on this is either 1. this thread isn't checked frequently AT ALL and 2. I didn't provide "proof". Well, here's the solution(s) to issue number 2.

The current thread about Matt's shop http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=444867
The old thread about Matt doing travel mechanic stuff around CA (and the whole country, honestly) from 2010-late 2014. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=297973

We'd really like to be on this list. Thanks!

HI All,

New to TDI and this forum....Great place to read and learn!

I recently bought a 2003 Jetta Station wagon 5 sp (211K) As far as I know it is bone stock except for me putting on "Pizza pan" Hubcaps for better Aero and having the windows tinted.

The car was close to needing a timing belt (I think about 10K left before 100L BUT then again I drive about 250 miles per day so it is not as far off time wise as you would normally think) but then the injection pump started leaking....AARG...double whammy!

Anyways, I was hoping to post this to see if there are any shade tree guys that can help me fix these two issues...I have all the parts just not the special tools and mad skills needed.

With a dripping injection pump I was hoping to find somebody close by or willing to travel....I live a few miles outside Charlottesville VA.

Any help or leads would be great!

Thanks.

Andy
