You should give GotEuroCorrado a look for addition to the trusted mechanics list. I just visited him based upon some reviews on a thread or two here on tdiclub. I'm happy with his work and it seems quite obvious, from review of his shop, that he has a solid handle on TDIs.

Just my 2c.

I left the Seattle/Tacoma/Fife/Spanaway area in WA not too long ago and would like to recommend Oval's VW in fife, they did good work on my 02 Golf... I needed an auto transmission drain and fill after 150k ish miles.... and they did brakes/suspension... reasonably priced and good work, they will call if they find something you didn't know about, and let you know if it is a dire fix or if it can wait.

Need a tech/guru to do timing belt kit on an 09' TDI on Long Island New York. Is there anybody qualified in my area to make proper installation. I keep checking the list but hard to believe there is no one capable of receiving a recommendation for this work. Does anybody have the name of a shop they had used. Thanks

Mike Hevner aka Hevster, in Montague NJ, or TDIJETTA99 dba L&S Auto Sales in Port Jervis NY, are the two guys closest to you. You might talk with one or both of them, see whether they are available, or if they know someone closer to you who can be trusted.

Hello,my name is Rocky Culpepper I had a bad experience with a mechanic operating out of the bethlehem and allentown.craigslist listiings he didn't do what I had asked him to do and I had to get my car towed back home.He also didn't have all the parts some nuts and bolts and screws were missing even a bracket to the motor mount as well. And then I found Roman vw man in hatsboro, pa. This gentlmen helped me with the help of a surgeon in the operating room and a lot of information and advice about the car. He had found all of the missing nuts and bolts and screws even a bracket from the motor mount. I just wanted to let the tdi community know that yes there's a good vw mechanic in hatsboro, pa. And his name is Roman, thanks for your time and patience with my situation. God bless you rocky

First off, my fault for forgetting after a friend said he brought his Jetta to the dealer for a starter change and soon after the engine fell down.

My fault a second time for buying the car in January and not insisting on them installing a new battery as a condition of sale. Less than a year later battery dies. Battery replaced after second visit followed by more visits for fault codes. Finally gets figured out after a bunch of component changes to a missing fuse.

The last straw for me was car coming up for end of warranty so I go to take the underneath plastic cover off for a look and find one of the bolts sheared off. Go to the dealer suggesting they should replace it and they insinuate I did it. I talk to the service manager and he tells me they use loctite to install them. Nuts or what? Butchered car and not even off warranty.

Why can't these dealers have a follow up questionnaire for feed back on how they did? Maybe then they would learn from some of their mistakes.

Just got my car back fron Allen at Cuz's TDI Werks in Stafford, VA. Great mechanic that did an awesome job on my car. I put him to the test with a full laundry list of maintenance and repairs and did all at a really great rate. He was also really fun to hang out with for a couple hours today. I have now found me go-to guy for my Jetta and look forward to the next time I will take my car into him.

I don't know who is maintaining the Google map but I wanted to point out that Tomas Sport Tuning has moved. New address is in Berkeley, not San Pablo:

I found a new mechanic near me today and wanted to share. He said that he has only done one timing belt on a CR diesel but now has the tools and is willing to learn. There were several BMWs, a couple of Mercs, and a new Beetle sitting outside his shop. Only BMWs on the shop floor. He has three bays and a very sparse office. There is nothing around so if you want to wait, you had better bring your own entertainment. I am planning on taking the JSW to him for the 80K mile service.

No offense, but given the fact that he is practically a noob when it comes to working on TDI's, why is it you are recommending him for the TDI trusted mechanics list?

Seems like the original purpose for this thread was lost sight of long ago. :( I'm sure other TDI mechanics out there agree. So sad.

I am listing him as an option because when I ask for recommendations, I either get nothing or I get the "drive by and tell us about it" comments. So I am sharing that I found a new mechanic closer to me than the dealer and will add more details as I have a chance to use him.

For the Charlotte area, there are two mechanics on this list that are either no longer in business or don't know how to return a phone call or email. If I wanted to get to either of those two, I have to drive by at least two of the four dealers here.

In this case no need to add them to the official list until (if/when) there is more info... This thread is hardly the definitive list itself, that's what the document is for, and the author's can edit that at their discretion... As we all know, it can be hard to find (good) people to work on these cars, and it's possible kjclow's post will help someone get some good work done while saving some money versus a dealer... Also, kjclow fully disclosed the lack of experience with VWs... Had he not given that full disclosure I could see your point... Some skills to translate from one German car company to another... :)

Not trying to start a ruckus, but I don't see the problem with the post... Only by collecting such info can we expand and improve the list and our options...

Cheers to you both!

A few weeks ago I had my car serviced by Marin in Dallas Tx, I drove from Midland to have him do my timing belt job and a tune. I left at 3am was at his shop around 9am due to traffic, he got started right away and all I did was relax, later on I decided to have him do a tune with the tune ecu needed to be removed and it would take an extra day to get it done which i had no problem with, Marin was kind enough to drive me to a hotel near by and also let me use one of the cars to go and get some food. Overall all my experience has been great so far i've put over 3500miles on the tune and the timing belt job, with no issues. The only thing that I noticed are some hard shifts with the dsg every now and then, which he warned me about before I left. The shifts can be corrected with a Dsg tune however at this time I have not done this. Thanks Marin for the great job and answering all my questions, I will be coming back for future maintenance.

Does anybody know of someone within a reasonable distance of Fargo, ND to do a Timing Belt on 02 TDi?

Wife has a high mileage car that I would like this done on. Don't know when it was done last to be honest. Can't quite pull the trigger on bringing it to just anybody.

What do you consider reasonable? User Losha is in Sioux Falls, SD... [FONT=&quot]http://www.vdubautorepair.com/

(PS: I drove farther away than that to get my first timing belt change...)

Yuri is right, Losha in Sioux Falls is the closest guru. Merker at Midwest Motorworks in Hudson, WI, is a little further, but maybe there is something else you can do in the Twin Cities if you go that way. I don't know as if there is anything else in Sioux Falls except for the good TDI mechanic.

Interview some locals, find a good mechanic that is willing to listen and learn. They must use proper tools and be able to read the timing to finish. These cars are simple but different.
A young guy just certified would be a good bet, should be able to wrench anything and doesn't know it all yet.
or drive to Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls isn't all that far away.

There is a guy in town here that actually goes to the same gym I do (that works at the dealership), if I ever bump into him I might have to talk to him about it. I will look into Sioux Falls though, thanks.
