Removed!
I talked to someone at the shop who didn't seem to know the difference between an ALH and PD. Said some ridiculous things about engine oil.It has been many years since anyone posted a positive comment about Utah Imports; management may have changed, good mechanics may have moved on to other shops.

ooh, mine was definitely more than a cracked fuel line. Replaced pump, and not a hiccup sinceI experienced the exact same thing last spring in a late model 1999.5 Jetta TDI. It turned out to be a cracked fuel supply line from the tank to the filter. Replaced the fuel line so no trouble since.
I replaced that also when I installed the new fuel line..........the one that had been in there came apart when I pulled it out.Sometimes perfectly good injection pumps are replaced unnecessarily. I had a problem with the thermo-T on a fuel filter, allowing air to get sucked into the fuel line. Three bonafide gurus were pretty sure I needed a new injection pump, even though it worked just fine when I drove to the GTG. A different fuel filter solved the problem.
New thermo-T and rings, and new filter both installed prior. Lines checked too. If lines, filter, and thermo-T are good, Seems like there's only one other reason fuel isn't getting to the car.... = Pump. Mine had like 320k on it. It had a good life from what I know about these things.Sometimes perfectly good injection pumps are replaced unnecessarily. Maybe he doesn't care like he used to. I did let him know that the car had the same symptoms and quit running. He didn't show interest in helping correct the problem, stand by his work, or refund me. I paid him cash so I'm basically SOL. Might be time to quit referring him.I've dealt with Anuthee on several different occasions, he helped me out of a serious jam once while I was traveling.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but I know this is not his typical way of doing business. Through the years I've referred customers that have moved to CO to him and they all had a positive experience.
Glad you were able to get your TDI fixed and back on the road though, in spite of everything that transpired.
Cheers,
Ben
Only 2 hours away? Consider yourself fortunate!!!All the ones I see are in NY/Ma/Nj about 2-3 hours away in each direction.. Tks..
Also, turbo-related issues and injection-system issues. Regular shops including those which specialize in VW and Audi usually do not do a good job trouble-shooting these systems. But they are fine with the ordinary Volkswagen stuff. The TDI-specific chores such as timing belt systems are worth seeking out someone who works on these cars on a regular basis.
