You post contact information and the kind of work the mechanic or shop has done for you. The big question is, is this person a TDI expert or just a competent mechanic who sometimes works on Volkswagens?

There is someone on the list in Concord. Have you contacted him?

Otherwise, for TDI-specific issues there are Herm Pasker in Maine, and several shops or expert mechanics down in Massachusetts.

Will probably just go to Mitchell VW in Canton for first three changes...I have not been to any dealer to build relationship yet..the one I bought the car at is too far away to go back. Do dealers give loaners for warranteed service even if you didnt buy the car there?

Live in Western CT myself and have been looking around with no luck so far. I heard there was a guy in the Naugatuck area. If I find one ill let you know. If you find someone, please let me know. Some guy from RI replied to me on here, but that's 2 1/2 ride from me but considering it.

Remember, you don't need a TDI expert for non-TDI maintenance, repairs, or troubleshooting. If it doesn't involve the turbo or the injection system, then you may not need a TDI expert. It's a good idea to have a TDI expert handle timing belt replacements, but not absolutely necessary so long as the work is done by someone who really knows Volkswagens and has the necessary tools and VCDS software.

When you need a TDI expert, then it is worth traveling 100 or 200 miles or even further. For everything else, find a competent local mechanic.

I would like to report that the trusted mechanics list is a valuable resource. My parents were driving my sisters TDI out of state and their alternator went out. This was on a Friday afternoon. They called me to find out what to do and the first thing I did was come to the trusted mechanics list to find out where the nearest shop would be. Turns out that Davidson Import near Dayton OH was the closest. I sent them there. They left the car with Davidson Friday night and he came in Saturday morning to replace the alternator and get them on their way. Went out of his way to make sure that it got done and got done right. My parents were very impressed. Thanks Davidson Import and TDI Club!

Sometimes it also helps if you contact a local vendor if travelling. They can usually steer you in the right direction. For example if in the Northeast US call ID Parts, in The Northwest, Bora Parts etc.

2012 TDI DSG Sportwagen needs 40,000 mile service.
Live in Orlando. No faith in dealership for various reasons.

Eric Swanson (TDI Guy or 150 MPG) no longer works on TDI's. Full Throttle's phone (Shannon) is disconnected.

Any recommendations?

Newbie needs help

Hey guys, first off love the site. It has been soo helpful. Last friday i replaced the head seal on my injector pump.Got it back together no leaks, ran fine drove it around on saturday no issues. Sunday drove to fill it up, ran good then to. Then when i went to restart it, the engine was alot louder than normal, and also lost power, really noticable on the hills. I drove it back home and parked it, been out of town so not had chance to look at it, but looking for some ideas to check out on tomorrow.

Temp sensor(s)

1997 Passat TDI. Temp gauge reads, fluctuates while driving, doesn't show higher than 190 degrees but red temp warning light comes on after a few miles.
Two temp sensors ? Where are they .

I tried contacting a couple of guru regulars i usually take my car to, but i think they're away at the moment. Can anybody recommend a shop or mechanic in the New York (city) area, or even an hour and a half away for work on an 02j transmission? The differential is going.

You do not need a TDI expert for a transmission problem.

yes, and while i realize that, i would rather put the money back into this community or give it to somebody trust worthy.

Most of the shops that I have gone to around the city have been atrocious. Then again, i haven't gone to many.

I am so grateful to you guys at tdi...I found an excellent tdi mechanic, Alex, in Sioux Falls, SD. like you say, you might have to travel a 100 miles or so to get the best. thanks guys
