Cool, welcome to the forums, Chad. :)

Let us know a bit more about yourself. Give some scenarios for estimating work, and let us know some more specifics about your tool collection.

Thanks!
Ah, the tool collection... Even though this is just out of my garage, I still do this as professionally as I possibly can.

2 full tool boxes, All metric tools, some of my specialty tools include(off the top of my head): 5 different sizes of triple square, uncountable number of hex, 17mm hex, and I have a kit for doing BRM timing belts. VAG1552, looking to upgrade soon. Im sure I am forgetting things...

Estimating: I charge $40/hr, and I use regular repair times to write my estimates. I am ALWAYS cheaper than anyone else in my area because of my low expenses and overhead.

I do understand the differences between diesel and gas engine oils, though all 5qt oil changes are $69. And yes, that does include filter and the RIGHT oil.

I am mainly familiar with Mk4 and mk5 VWs and Audis. The older ones seem to be a bit more "guess and check", while I can diagnose OBDII problems, and be confident that my diagnosis is correct. I am also very customer oriented, providing excellent service and making things as easy for my customers as possible.

Give me a quiz! Someone call the number on my website or on the card in my sig and give me a 1998+ quiz! Not being cocky, I am just confident I have a VAST VWAG knowledge.

Welcome to the TDI-Club!!! Actually, when referring to tools, I believe they were interested in the lockdown tools for the ALH and older engines as well as the availability of something like Vag-Com (new name: VCDS from Ross-Tech).

Please join in some of the discussions and requests for help on other message threads...

All the best,

Yuri

Keep an eye on the Private TDI Items for Sale/Wanted forum
http://forums.tdiclub.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16
because sometimes people buy tools, use them once, and never need them again. The Metalnerd tools are good but second-hand is cheaper than new.
http://www.metalnerd.com/

I think we will try to send some business your way and see how it goes.

ymz,

VAG1552 is VW's diagnostic software system.

Chad, I'm going to put a pin on the map for you.

Metrick Methodz in Fort Collins, CO used to be on the list but I don't see it listed anymore. Brandon is most definitely one of the best VW/TDI mechanics anywhere, just wondering what happened....

I didn't delete him from the map, and the map should match the list. Perhaps a resubmission is in order.

That's cool just thought I'd ask.

Metrick Methodz
970-692-0053
970-482-8672

The address on the trusted list is not where the shop is anymore. The new shop is on the Mulberry Road frontage road, east of the Sundance Saloon on Delozier Dr. It's a little tricky to find if you've never been there. Customers should call him for directions. Brandon replaced my tranny fluid and struts today, plus he's done the timing belt, water pump, oil changes, battery and installed the skidplate. He also discovered why Daisy was leaking oil - a cracked oil cap, not the valve cover gasket as the dealer diagnosed.:D

Do you have an actual address? It makes it a lot easier than trying to navigate around an unfamiliar town in Google Maps to find the intersection. ;)

Can you find Lake Canal Ct and Delozier Dr?

edit - I looked it up on Google Maps and they don't have Lake Canal Ct. They show Delozier Drive though. The shop is in the cul-de-sac with Flow Fire Protection. If you need more info, let me know. I searched for Delozier Drive, Fort Collins, CO and it found it. Delozier is a short street so that helps.

There are lots of positive references to Metrick Methodz here at TDI Club, and even more over at VW Vortex. I am not sure if that shop was ever actually on the Trusted TDI Mechanics list, but it probably ought to be. (is the owner's name really Bubba?)

"$69 for a FIVE qt oil change"

I understand the overcharge for the bit more than 4 qts. No TDI holds 5 qts. I assume you give the extra to the client or just mentioned it this way to cover the overage.

I have lockdown tools for the BRM and spanner wrench for the tensioner, and I am always looking for more tools.:) And yes, Im already getting on the threads

Writing it this way covers me on all 4 cyl VW/Audi engines, and excludes 5,6, and 8 cyl. For the right oil, Jiffy Lube is the cheapest around here at $75 + tax, and then you have to worry about your splash shield falling off a week later:eek:

I'm assuming that he means quite soon.
Most definitely. No, my 1552 is not CANbus. I just received a VAG CAN scanner from ECS tuning, but it had a product defect so I had to send it back.

I have been looking at VAGcom(of course) and VAD Mobile (which offers a palm/bluetooth option to connect wirelessly)

Just curious... specifically what oil (brand, type, weight) and filters do you use for Mk IV and Mk V model oil changes?

TIA

$69 for a synthetic oil change is well within reason, especially since 505.01 oils typically list for $10/quart.. Our synthetic oil changes are $50 for up to 5 quarts.. some are more if it's some goofy expensive filter...

The touareg TDI oil change is $150 since it holds 12 Liters of 505.01..

That is NOT the address of the shop, as I stated above. That address is actually his house where the shop used to be. The shop is off of Delozier Drive and yes, he was on the Trusted List here. Some people call him Bubba but I call him Brandon.

Has ZERO to do with price but quantity.

For the PD engines, I use Castrol 505.01. All* gas engines use Castrol syntec 5w40. I have not done maintenance on a clean diesel yet, as most are being serviced at the dealer un "free maintenance". From the oil analysis' that Iv read, it appears that I can use the Mobil1 5w40 turbo diesel truck. If this is correct, it would be great because it is much more available in my area.

Even though I am newly registered, this is not my first time to this site raking the 'lubricants' forum for info on TDi approved oil.

All oil filters I use are made by either Mann, Mahle, or Hengst.

I just wanted to put in a plug for Keith Harley at KMH Motors in North Chelmsford, MA. He's on the list of trusted mechanics and did some work for me last week. He got me in quickly, reasoned through the diagnosis with me, even let me watch while he did some of the work! Plus he's a super nice guy to boot. Based on this experience, I highly recommend him to folks in eastern MA, particularly north of Boston, and southern NH.

My '03 Jetta has 110k and I'm thinking a TB is in order, lest disaster strike. I'm in Vicksburg, MS and the closest recommended shops seem to be in Memphis, TN and Birmingham, AL. I'm willing to truck it that far to get it done right, but if anyone knows of a good shop or guru that's closer, I'm all ears!

You need a new TB right now. But you also need it done right, by someone who doesn't cut any corners, who replaces everything in the TB path with the right parts. Get your Jetta done right and you shouldn't have to worry about that for the next 90k-100k miles. (When you go past 100k miles then you should worry.)

Travel as far as you need to go, maybe combine the trip with some other fun stuff. Then do it again in another 6 or 7 years. Check in the Southeast US forum if you want more suggestions, then start making some calls. Let us know who you decide to use and how it works out for you.
