For the first time this weekend the remote switch and door button would not open truck. Had to use key. This happened for a day, then started working again Sat. Now not working again. Did search and only found latching problems, any suggestions? Thanks Matt

I'm not sure about the remote not working the trunk but it may go through the drivers door wiring. Which is a known issue with the MKV body, might consider checking that.

I tore door apart and looked at wiring, all looks brand new. Did the same in trunk, also good. Pulled liner and unplugged latch. Dash light cleared and I can lock car. Come back on minute I plug back in. Anyone know how to test the latch assembly? Thanks, matt

That stinks, the only issues with the trunk latch I've read about have been just with latching which is pretty common. Now my drivers door latch is intermittently not sending the open signal so the mfd doesn't recognize the door to be open when it is open. Maybe your trunk latch is doin the same thing but just opposite as my door latch. I have a new latch sitting in the garage along with a new engine harness. I will install them this weekend. Probably just time for a new trunk latch.

Does sound like the micro switch inside the latch isn't working. If the car thinks the trunk is already open, it will not trigger an unlock electrically.

You might be able to take the latch mechanism apart for further investigation.

Thanks guys! Im gonna run through it and see if anything pops out. I just fear throwing parts at anything. $60 for new one, but no one will return electronics if not the problem. Since its just unplugged I am in no rush now since locks work and dash is clear. Will try local u pull its or try to test some one elses in future.

Did you find the source of the problem? Mine has similar symptoms, light in dash on, switch and key fob button do not work. All wiring looks new.

The wiring in my drivers door looked good, drivers window would not go up, wire was broken but insulation was not, found by pulling each wire, one pulled apart, spliced and window worked. My trunk would open with the key fob, but the latch would not reset to close in cold weather, thread had the grease in the latch mechanism holding it up, cleaned out the grease, only applied a little oil and it works all the time not. The unlock and lock mechanism is a motor and gears, seems unnecessarily complex, a solenoid pulling would seem simpler. My daughter's Beetle did the same thing. Since neither the remote or the door switch work, I'd look at the lock mechanism.
