The trunk on my 2000 jetta is hard to open. It comes unlocked properly, but its like the hinges are stiff. It takes alot of muscle to lift it. I tried spraying lube on each pivot point. I even took the pneumatic hold-open-thingies off to see if maybe they were dragging internaly, but it was still lame.

Any ideas?

the trunk closes and opens fine, it just causes torn ligaments in your bicep when you lift it:D

i guess it is possible that they are bent, but it doesnt seem so.

I have this same issue. I have had it for several years. Just been dealing with it. My assumption is that the trunk support pistons need to be replaced. Lube hasn't worked. Just haven't decided it was worth $40 to replace the pistons.

the above link describes exactly the same problem as mine. i guess i will just have to keep spraying penterating lube on it untill it breaks loose.
