I have a VAGCOM with the HEX-COM interface. It doesn’t seem to be functioning properly. I own a 99.5 TDi Jetta, 5 speed with the A$ chassis and VNT turbo.
Here is what I have done.
I turn the car to the run position, but did not start it.
Turned on my P2, 300mhz computer plugged in the hexcom and then plugged it into my serial port on my laptop.
Then I went to the following menus:
Control module finder:
Options
Test COM port
It is found on COM port 1, I saved.
Went to control module finder and let it finish.
I found only a few addresses.
01
03
17
33
3F
And 46.
I then went to select and chose 01-Engine. It does the search per the Internet description:
This screen will appear when VAG-COM is attempting to establish communications with a Control Module.
Some information also appears in the controller info area, but it immediately goes back to the previous screen “Common Modules” by itself. I cannot and it will not let me select any functions, basic or advanced. The boxes go from gray to black letters in the function boxes, but I cannot select them fast enough or it wont let me before it goes back by itself to the “select control Module screen. It is the same with any module I select.
How do I access these functions?

I'm scratching my head, as I cannot reproduce this problem.

What version of VAG-COM are you using?

Does it behave the same way when you don't go to Control Module Finder first?

Suggestions:

Can you verify that the comm port works OK? Use a modem or something.

Try runing scandisk and defrag the drive.

Do you have the latest & greatest comm port drivers?

I'm no VAG-com expert, but sounds like some sort of comm
port confusion to me, especially from a laptop.

Good Luck!

I just downloaded it last week, so it should be current. I see there is a version 303.1 on their site with today's date. I dont know if there is a new one out today, or its just a date that updates daily as you visit the website.
However, it does do the LED light thing, and vagcom finds the port and also scans for modules, so it seems it is fine with the port. I dont know of any updated drivers for the com ports, I will look, but using win 98 should have native drivers that are faily current.

303.1 was released on Monday, 24 March 2003, so obviously whatever you're using is NOT current.

I hate to sound unfriendly but I can't help you if you are unable or unwilling to read the version number off the first screen of the program. It's also on the "About" screen.

If you want help in real-time, please call us, from in front of your PC, with it connected to the car.

O, nice to meet you. Excellent software and cable. Thanks for the products. Eagerly awaiting my CD to take full advantage of the program.
I went out at lunch today to get numbers. I tried the program again. This time the cable popped when I attached it to the car. It didn’t last time. I am assuming I didn’t firmly press it on last attempt. It was working fine today.
Can someone explain how to modify the EGR function to nil? I just cleaned the IC and intake and would like to shut it off while I'm waiting for the Bentley CD to arrive to tell me how. Love playing, hate waiting.
