Trifecta of codes

I was driving today and noticed my check engine light came on. I used OBD-11 to scan the car and got the following codes:
The dreaded P2002 code (DPF), P0401 (EGR upper limit exceeded), and P1A58 (Nox catalyst regen required. The DPF soot load is 21.6 g (calculated) and 5.1g (measured). Last regeneration occurred 270km ago. The particle filter differential pressure was measured at 10mbar. The offset differential was 0mbar.

Several weeks ago, I got the P2002 code. The dealer cleaned/regenerated the DPF and found an air leak in the turbo inlet pipe, which was replaced. I distrust VW, so I got a second opinion, and the DPF was in good condition two weeks hence. It has done one regeneration since then, and I took it on a long drive of about 100 miles last night.

I am not sure what to do. I am loathe to take it out for a regen cruise for fear of making all of this worse. VW recommends a nox catylist regen cruise and gives instructions on how to do that. However, there are multiple codes and a complex system so I don't want to **** things up further. The gross preponderance of the miles on this car is the freeway.

Any ideas aside from taking a hacksaw to the emissions crap and selling it for scrap?

The punch line is that the Diesel Gate warranty expired last week. o_O

i get not trusting the dealer, but had you insisted, they probably would have replaced the DPF for you.

you may even have some recourse being that there's a record of your car being @ that dealer for the same problem. i would argue that they didn't fix it correctly at the time it was under warranty. consider escalating your case beyond the dealership and see what happens. nothing to lose...

Thank you, but the second opinion is that the DPF was fine. and yes there was fine layer of soot at the tailpipe.

It is not clear to me what constitutes a sooty tailpipe. Could it be the residual from the last three DPF that they have replaced? This car has had more
DPFs in four years than air filters.

I would get a towel and degreaser and clean the exaust tip, and see if the tail pipe is still clean after a week of driving.
