Just got my Bentley book for 2005 to 2010 VW. Done some reading along with the self study on the net. Just for refrence I drove my 1992 GTI for 18 years, mostly only normal wear items were replaced. However with this 2010 CR TDI, Strain guages and PWM in the glow plugs, Piezo 26,000 psi PWM injectors, 2 electric fuel pumps, 28,000 PSI prone to failure HPFP, DPF with high temp regen cycles and a multitude of pressure and temp sensors, EGR into the turbo along with some soot, dual mass flywheels, and more, all these systems are highly prone to failure just by the nature of the system they are used in, I don't beleive there is a chance in the world to get 18 years out of this. I bought the new car to reduce head aches, not tremble verytime the car is driven.

Easy! Sell it! ;)

However I can verify all the above systems CAN work flawlessly for at least 104,000 miles.

So you're suggesting to the OP that the problems that people report on this forum with their MK6 TDIs (which the OP listed nicely in his original post, except for the intercooler freezing issue, which he forgot) is caused by improper care of the car?

le sigh...

A car is a car is a car. Things break, it happens. I'm at 48k with no problems, if I worried every day about what might happen I'd go insane. If something breaks, it will be fixed; kind of the rules for car 101. It is unfair to compare a naturally aspirated vehicle to a turbo diesel; the complexity increase is so much greater failure will always be higher due to increase parts alone. If you want the reliability of a naturally aspirated motor there are plenty available i.e. civic, vw's 2.5, mazda3, etc. Even adding a turbo to a gas motor you increase failure potential of parts.

That's like saying I won't go outside because it might rain. Or saying I won't go on vacation because I might die, get lost, or whatever. Alternatively you could just ride public transportation but it might fail, maybe due to a HPFP failure, a blown tire, etc.

We live in a world of pure entropy, once you realize this and embrace the chaos; you can truly be at peace and begin to live life.

I'm 23 and I think these things are self evident but maybe I'm wrong, maybe your car is a steaming heap of failure and impending doom. Either way you are looking at sensationalized topics which people are placing under a magnifying glass. Let me be the first to say "relax, it's going to be alright".

So you are suggesting that majority (opposite of minority) of people haven't had issues are wrong and should not be listened toooooo!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!!?!?

People love looking at the worst possible scenario and love predicting them, when a failure occurs they can finally be right and say "A-HA!, I was right it is a piece of crap".

Even if 98 people said "Nothing wrong" and 2 said "HEY MY STUFF BROKE". The 98 would begin to wait for their turn to say "HEY MY STUFF BROKE" and enjoy being correct because it was predicted.

Over a long enough time line any vehicle will fail, any part will fail, anything and anyone will fail and die eventually.

It is a sad day when people decide that they want to sell their vehicle and waste money needlessly when there was never an issue present in their system to begin with. All because of a few turds in the punch bowl screaming "THE BOAT IS SINKING, SWIM AWAY!" but it isn't sinking, there isn't anything wrong.

I hold these truths to be fairly self-evident:

1. Every modern car rolling off the assembly line now or in the last decade or two is a complex pile of interdependent hardware and software.

2. Some small amount of breakage in any complex system of hardware or software is to be expected.

3. No one posts "Yup, car ran fine again today", so all we tend to see on these forums is the small amount of breakage that is to be expected. We have very limited visibility to the size of the "yup car ran fine today" pool.

Drive more, worry less, IMHO. :):)

Well said and thinking like this will save you a lot of grief in life.

Yeah, this was brilliant advice for you!

If you tremble over any car, maybe public transportation is the way to go.
Yuuuuuuuuppp!!!!! :D

Mods need to start deleting threads like these.
I dunno, they kinda have their own point....

Nicely self-actualized!

In 21 months as a daily driver @ ~5000 miles a month, I fail to be sick of the damn thing working to spec without issue day after day after day......:p

(I know, I have the wrong car for this section but I wanted to chime in.)

this site is evil, delete it from you favorite list, never again set eyes on any of the topics, your headaches will dissappear, trembling will go away your car will become your trusted friend, out of site out of mind. I had an 05 passat tdi after following the B5 site for years I was convinced the next time I drove the car it would blow up:eek:, so I sold it
