Tree Sap Removal?

Back at TDI Fest 2005, I had a hardened blob of tree sap on my car. Someone had some stuff that took it right off. I think it was in a white can with red letters on it. Does anyone know what that stuff was?

A few months ago, my son took a trip & left his car parked under a very large pine tree. It got tree sap all over it. I used all kinds of cleaners to try & remove it but none of them worked very good. The stuff sold in Auto Parts chain stores that is labeled tar & tree sap remover didn't do much. I had some trichloroethylene degreaser that was the only thing that would work on it (even with that it was tough to remove). We spent an entire day with 3 people getting the sap off.
