Transmission

I have a 2006 VW Jetta TDI with automatic transmission. I have a 170k mile. My transmission started kicking it self out of 6 gear driving down the highway and know it wont get over 90mph. Also its getting hard for it to shift out of 4 gear. If I put in in manual mode I can shift the gears and keep it in 6 gear but cant get my speed over 90 mph. Is is time for a new transmission or is there something simple wrong with the transmission.

You don't say if it's a Jetta wagon with an 09A trans or a Jetta sedan with a DSG.

Either way, both of those are reparable. Bring the car to 1 of the trusted mechanics on the list. Or, if you have time, bring it up to Kansas City where there is a tdi auto trans specialist. http://kansascitytdi.com/

The 09A only has five speeds; so it most likely is the DSG.

The 2006 Jetta TDI is DSG-only.

I had a similar experience with mine recently. Couldn't shift to 6th 99% of the time and occasionally doesn't engage reverse. Ended having to buy an used DSG and replace the thing.

you sure? My 06 jetta tdi has a 5spd A09.....

Unless you meant 06 sedans....wagons in 06 were still mk4

Sorry, I meant the sedans. I completely forgot about the wagons.
