Where do you check trans fluid in an 06 auto? Also what trans fluid works best?
If it's the DSG, there's no dipstick. The level has to be checked through a procedure that's a PITA. It's almost the same procedure you go through to change the fluid, so if there's no leaks, don't worry about it until it's time to do the filter/fluid change.

As for the trans fluid, I believe Pentosin, Fuchs and OEM would work the best.

Is there a DIY on here on how to change it/check it? It shifts funny an I figure it's time.

If your car is a 2006 Jetta TDI with the DSG transmission check here:

Also look at the FAQ at the top of this forum.

You can tell if it's a DSG in two ways:
A: It will have a little collar around the base of the shift handle that says "DSG"
B: All 2006 Jetta TDIs sold in North America came equipped with either the "row your own" conventional manual transmission, or the DSG option. If you have a PRNDS type transmission, it's a DSG. :)

It is a dsg. It just takes forever to shift from 2-3 an 3-4 at full throttle, usually you have to let off the gas.

You may have to do the DSG adaptation test drive. Pull the positive battery cable for an hour or so (overnight if possible), reconnect it, reset the window and wheel adaptations (roll all the windows down, hold it down for 2 secs, roll them back up, hold for 2 secs, then turn the wheel all the way left then all the way right then back to center), then do the DSG test drive.

If the fluid hasn't been changed in 32.5k-42.5k miles, then you probably need to do that first (the manual will say 40k, but adjust to your driving...).
