So yeah.. traffic stopped me the other night and looking at the damage it's repairable, but not worth the cost I suspect.

It's an 02 with 245k on it.

It's also my second MkIV Jetta so I am kind of sick of them. And to be frank I don't dig FWD anything. But I did love the mpgs and, with both mine, they were DEAD reliable. A few minor gremlins, but nothing of significance.

So, I don't know what to do. I am leaning toward another diesel which kind of leaves me with either a Golf or another Jetta.

I'd really REALLY like a 335d, but I am having a hard time spending $30-$40k on a car that I am going to put 35k miles a year on. mtbr297 is building the TDI R32, and at his predicted price I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but I need a car before it will be done.

Curious on your thoughts..

I have contemplated that route. There are plenty of cheap bodies out there. I know this because I was looking at them for body donors, before I discovered the door had moved.

At the moment I am very very seriously contemplating the R32 TDI in classifieds. If I decide I can swing another car payment.. sweet baby jesus. I can tolerate another VW for AWD TDI goodness!

Why? That sounds like a lot of seat time in the car. Might as well enjoy it. I tend to buy higher trim/equipment vehicles because I spend more time than average in them. And I only put about 20k/year on my vehicles.

Again, I agree. But I have a friend who loves his BMWs. But even he is willing to admit that BMW clearly has a problem with hating their customers.

Dead battery? Trip to the dealer. His last trip was a 3 day wait. Because the battery died.

Burned out headlight? $600. Also a true story. It was a HID ballast or something.

But driving the 335d is truly a good thing. Man it is tempting..

Sounds like a teutonic mindset to me...

Actually it would be more properly described as a fundamental lack of respect for the customers, and looking at them more as a subservient underclass who only deserve to be separated from every dollar possible.

But it makes used BMW's cheap for the DIY'er. Seems people only tend to keep them till the warranty runs out, then sell. No one seems to want to own one if they have to pay for service on it. My 98 328ic was very nice once I fixed it up. Sold it a year or so later for nearly double what I had into it.
