I have an A4 engine, 2003 Jetta TDI. How does one remove the top cover on the timing belt without breaking something. The cover has three spring clips but something must be holding it in place. My car died but the belt did not break completely, I need to get a better look at it without doing something irreversible.

might add that top 3 clips stay with the cover and the lower two stay with the backing plate, judging from that picture.

Thanks for the information, the clips that stay with the engine are the ones that I missed and were holding the cover in place. I changed the TB, it took many days with rain and snow delays.

Best laugh I had all day........

?????

Mine works.

BTW, glad to see the runonbeer site back up. As soon as I have some extra pesos, I could use a little wrenching.
