Just curious, has anyone hit their top speed on a MKVI Jetta sedan TDI? The speedometer has 160.
155 MPH is a common speed limiter there.I have hit only about 95 mph, only to pass , so just for an instant.
One month ago, in Germany from Wernemunde to Berlin, we rented a BMW 5 series, but got upgraded to a BMW 725diesel...top of the line.... so I went all out. Some areas were only 100 kilometerper hour..... so had to slow down, but other sections of the autobahn were no speed limit, so I followed another car....
Averaged about 210 kph to 220 kph, but in one section, to catch up to the other guy, I hit 250 kilometer per hour plus, ( 150 mph ) , but felt it was the top end. I think they put a top end limiter on many European cars.

lol just tested mine on a similar stretch in wyoming, right around 122, though the rpm's were only at 4k, so you should be able to get into the 140 mark unlimited.... granted i wasn't running the stock tires anymore.I would usually never risk going so fast, but there was one time in rural Wyoming, between two VERY distant rest areas or exits, when my girlfriend couldn't quite hold nature's call any longer and I was racing for somewhere to pull off the road before time expired inside the car.
I simply had my foot buried in the carpet for a couple of miles and, when I had the balls to look away from the road, the speedo was reading something around 120. Car felt great and I had no worries about the car itself, I was worried about the minivan tires that came on it. I'm not too caught up on speed ratings: what they consist of and what our stock Hankooks and Contis are rated at...
I remember reading sometime awhile back in some popular car magazine that all German cars have to be able to safely maintain around 100mph (or whatever in KPH) because of the autobahns. Might be only euro models, might be cars SOLD in Germany, might be an old rule, or our little Jets might fall into that category. Some overknowledgeable one will undoubtedly confirm or deny that.
This is true. The car is usually electronically governed to go no faster than the speed rating of its OEM tires. A "high performance" option with higher speed rated tires would also have a higher electronic speed limiter. Most US-spec VAG products are speed limited to about 120 or 130 MPH. They go by what OEM tires usually. All of my speed limited Volkswagens have tagged their speed limiter on an open stretch of traffic-free highway, except my current Golf, which I've only gotten up to around 115.
It's always nice to have a rabbit blowing up the road at 10-20 mph over the limit. Makes my usual 5 over seem like nothing.195 km/h...no problem, but I like not to be fastest car on the road. COP's pick the fastest car first!!!
I'll say this...I've seen 120 in my 2012 and was still accelerating when I backed off. Most US-spec VAG products are speed limited to about 120 or 130 MPH. They go by what OEM tires usually. All of my speed limited Volkswagens have tagged their speed limiter on an open stretch of traffic-free highway, except my current Golf, which I've only gotten up to around 115.
