Yes, I've observed maximum boost on the ALH in my Vanagon is from 3200-3600 RPMs. From there, boost falls back as well as power (that wall you speak of @oilhammer), even with a Stage 1 tune.

I never had thought about no DTC not being flagged with a failing MAF. The only MAF failure I've experienced was with my 2000 Jetta almost 25 years ago. Seems someone said to unplug it until I got a replacement. Been too long ago to remember the details. I did replace it.

I'd forgotten about that. Yes, I replaced the MAF on my beetle and it was like giving an asthmatic a breathing treatment.
