I have a 13 jetta tdi that i tuned and deleted as soon as i got it, right before rawtek stopped sending them. It only has 53,000 miles but the water pump and t belt have never been done. Is this something I should be worried about/ do soon?

Pretty sure timing belts age with time. First thing I did when I bought mine was change the timing belt for the peace of mind.

There are just too many to list....
I've never once seen a TDI timing belt fail due to age.

I just did the original belt on a 1998 New Beetle with only 92k miles on it. It lasted longer than the pump did.

I'd not lose any sleep over it. The last three CR cars I had in here all were 2012s or 2013s, all with OVER 130k miles, and they'd never had their belts done either. Still don't (because the emissions control systems emptied the owners' bank accounts).

What happened to their emissions control systems?
The emissions systems on CBEA/CJAA and onwards VWs are very expensive to replace when (yes when) they wear out/fail... often before timing belt is due.

If you live in a state with tight emissions inspections, its either replace the parts or scrap the car.

I agree with Oilhammer.

I saw a 1998 New Beetle that the TB broke at 105k miles in 2006. The Dealership where he purchased it in 2003 assured him the TB had been changed. Seems those early NB TBs were either 40k or 60k belts. Correct me if I am wrong.

I changed out a few 2012 TBs with slightly over 100k miles and roughly 10 years old. Visually, the belts looked okay.

As I've posted previously, the record for miles on a TB that I can without any doubt confirm is slightly over 180k miles, 2001 Jetta 5-speed The lady's husband brought the car to me for a TB change (all info in my PC) in about 2012. Years later, at with an additional 143k miles I did another TB job.... then, another TB job at roughly another 139k miles. During that last TB change (last December) at 465k miles, I asked her who did the first TB change. She said that I had done it. Wow! She said that a dealer had never worked on it.

Those parts would be the DPF primarily? Guess I’ll just hope for the best.

On your 2015 CRUA engine, the DPF is a lot more reliable - I don't know what they changed, but the DPF in the CJAA was a "when" if fails; the DPF in the CRUA is more of an "if" (although they eventually all will clog up and need replacing - but that's a lot better / easier to budget for than a DPF that cracks somewhere between 10K and 80K miles.

for the sake of semantics, it's actually 10y/130k

i just did my second timing belt job, 256k miles. i put 137k miles on this second belt, it looked brand new coming out. could still clearly make out the date markings.

as oilhammer said, the belt rarely goes first when comparing the mileage/age for these things. it's other belt systems like waterpump or tensioner. even serpentine belts as people seem to forget about those.
