1985? I don't go that far back. Only a couple of us on this forum would know how to do that year. Most of us are 1996 and on. But you are welcome to join the crowd.

I certainly would not be expecting to get any work done but am interested it gathering opinions on the car and getting to see some of the later models.

I will keep my eye on this thread for a final time and place and see what happens.

Sept 12, 13, 14 timing belt GTG

I just moved back to Iowa a few weeks ago. If you guys are serious about a GTG the weekend of Sept 12-14, I might show up just to hang out. I also have a niece in Omaha who I haven't seen in a few years, so that's another reason for me to make the trip.

This thread is pretty quiet though... Is this GTG going to happen?

I am still interested in getting the timing belt changed in my 98. If this is going to happen just allow me enough time to order the kit.

At this point with all the timing issues and concerns when to have it or not. I strongly suggest anyone to take that weekend I am available as the two following weekends got filled. It seems that we have several interest for the 12-14th weekend. I am not going to hold it much longer. I will give it away if I need to.

Can someone host it? TDIEddie apparently is too busy. My only requirement is that there is a place I can sleep if I am making that long drive to help others and there is an air compressor.

Let me check with my schedule and with the boss (my wife) and I'll let you know if I can host. I'm highly interested, just don't want to commit to something before I'm absolutely positive.

My only known conflict (that I can think of) would be a soccer game (season is just starting and I coach), though I wouldn't have a problem leaving for an hour or so and returning.

I'm in Underwood, IA - just a few miles outside of the Council Bluffs/Omaha area.

I'll post back tomorrow with an update.

Sorry for the delay in the repost. I'm unable to host this time around. I there's interest in a GTG later this fall, I'm definitely interested. I've got a few other schedule conflicts on that Saturday and will be leaving early morning on Sunday for California.

DeafBug,

I'll offer you a place to stay, but I only have one garage space open (due to a basement remodel) I live in Plattsmouth, Ne. I don't know anyone with garage space at the moment either... but I can throw the air compressor on the trailer and bring it with me...

Sorry Brad I've been MIA, I'm busy driving back and forth to Osage Beach on the weekends to spend time with my wife and don't know when I'll be around for a weekend at this point. I have 105k on the car now and might just take it into the dealer so I can get the work done during the week.

Anyone need a belt done, just email me. especially if you are making a casual trip to the Twin Cities. I can possible fit you in if I have enough notice.

Also I am still willing to come down if someone hosts a GTG. Try to aim for the beginning of November. October is quite busy for me already. I don't make road trips once it snows until spring.

November might work for me too, I could host at our house again. I'm at 107k and need to get it done soon. I should know in the next week what the wife's schedule looks like and if it will work.

I will pencil in the date.

Everyone, please make a note on what you want done in this thread so that I can try to manage my time. I can arrive early like mid-afternoon that Friday. Also try to keep it urgency stuff like timing belts that you want my service for as my time is limited and my back can handle so much. Simple things like brake pad replacements are things that you can do but I can bring my special tools for it.

Most important, make sure you have the parts for the job. :)

Do we want to do a group buy on the parts from BleachedBora?

That said my deluxe BEW kit runs $259 plus shipping. If you get a bunch of kits together then I'd do $249 shipped. For the Deluxe ALH kits which usually run $325 shipped I do them for $299 shipped. Again these are a lot more complete than most.
1Z/AHU kits with water pump kits are $160 instead of $175.
All filters are as marked, but with free shipping. Same with brakes, clutch kits, suspension etc... Sometimes people get so much together for a GTG that I end up shipping it on a pallet.

I actually think I have Nov 15th off! Maybe I'll be able to show up and meet some of the 'locals'! Its been a while since I have been to a TDI gathering ... I think it was at Ol'Navy's place about 4 years ago!

Drive ON!

Haven't seen much of a response yet, Brad have you heard from many on your end? It took me a bit to find a date that would work for my wife, she has to drive the car back up from Missouri on Friday so I can have it to work on. We are in the process of moving to Lake of the Ozarks, well it's been a long process with the housing market! At any rate chime in if you can make it and we can plan the work so Brad has plenty to do.

I PM'd him about being on hand for advice on how to properly service the O1M on my 2003 wagon... other than that i'd just like to meet a few locals and maybe run a vagcom on my car to see what it says...

I only have two of you. the timing belt of Eddie and the tranny of Dan. That is fine with me. I know others mentioned that they want to observe and meet me and others but no work. Usually (as experience and history shows) there will be more requests when the time gets closer. There is someone from Iowa that mentioned that they can go to your place but I haven't heard anything about it.

Ed, I will be there regardless. Even if it is one car, then you can help me with my stuff. I bought a TDIheater and needs to be installed before it gets cold as I have to park my car outside at the house I am staying at this winter. I was not able to start my car several mornings last winter as I had to park my car outside since the garage was FULL of my ex-wife's belongings prior to her pickup. Not going to have the same issue this winter.

I am moving to Omaha as I type. Just stopped in Billings for the night. I'd love to meet some of the other Omaha-ish area TDIers. Pretty much any weekend works for me.

Don't need any work done, but just took delivery on my 09 in early September and it's my first Diesel. It'd be nice to meet some locals that know more about my car than I do.

Tranny Service for my 02

Hi Brad

I guess I would see you again, my 02 jetta needs a tranny service and this time I want to learn to do it.
Beside that, a door switch but I'm sure somebody can help me.
My rear shocks are getting noise, but I'm not doing it right now.
check my timing belt, just to make sure it's ok
And if by that time I haven't fix it, i got an airbag light for my passenger seat.
Are you staying with somebody, maybe we can put some extra money and get you a hotel room for two nights.

Where is the GTG?

I have my Vag-com and tools available.

The GTG is at our place on Carter Lake, I'll PM you the address. Last time Brad stayed with us and I think that is the plan again. We have plenty of room. I think we had a few people that drove in stay with us.

Brad what time/day do you think you will come down? I think you came on Friday last time and we did my car first. The wife will be driving it back Friday night, so we can do the work on your car if that works out. Do you plan on staying the night on Saturday too?

My address is 750 Key Circle, Carter Lake, IA 51510. Cell is 402-290-8070. From Lincoln you can exit by downtown Omaha on Cummings, Cummings will turn into Abbot Drive (twords the airport) you take Locust Street West to 9th Street, 9th Street North to Keys Circle, West (left) to 750 Keys Circle. It's a green ranch on the North side of the road.

If I get a chance I would like to stop by as well. Is anyone pretty good with Vag-Com who is showing up? I would like to get a code read (assume it's glow plug) as well as adjust the EGR lower and lower the Idle Injection Quantity as I have upgraded nozzles and run WVO. Plus it would be nice to meet a few other locals:)
