Any recommendations for getting a timing belt replaced on a 2015 GSW in New England? Specifically in or near New Hampshire or Maine.

I have done the TB replacement 3 times on my previous ALH but this time I'd like to find someone to do the job.

Its actually easier than ALH. You dont really need to touch the injection pump.
Yeah, I watched a YouTube video and that was my impression also. No engine hanger and it looks like a lot fewer specialized tools are needed. I did my first VW TB change on my 82 Rabbit, but i don't get up and down as easily as I did in those years.

Ahh local guy.

My CJAA TB was done by Reflex Tuning in Hooksett back in 2016 (was $1100). I inquired about our Passat, they switched to a "wholistic subscription service center for maintaining you car to show room specifications" Where they said they'd need to do $500 full inspection on the car before they even attempted a quoate at TB job, but roughly they charge 2000-2500 for TB. Sounds like they just want to see the car every year and highlight preventative items. Our Passat was with them at 60K around 2019 where they did a coolant flush and anlignment.

I then called Sams Euro shop up in Bow, he said he can turn around a TB job for around 1100-1200, I'll be making an appointment there in a week or two. Were at 108K and thinking we'll get it done before summer travels start up.

I did hear another shop that turns around TB jobs without issue is KMH down in Methuen i think they wanted 1400 or sometihng, but Bow is way more convenient as I'm just west of Manchester.

Didn't there used to be TDI Guru's that would travel around doing repairs? I'd be interested in what you think about the shop in Bow after they do your TB.

Reviewing the TB procedure it looks like a competent shop with parts in hand should be able to turn around a TB change on a MK7 fairly quickly. With a new water pump, alternator belt and torque to yeld bolts something in the $1200-$1400 may be reasonable if they could schedule the job in 1 day for folks traveling a long distance. Maybe a loaner/rental if the job encounters issues, don't want to have to uber home.

You do have to support the engine, engine mount bracket has to come off to get the belt on/off. The CKRA is the only common rail TDI I'm familiar with that the engine mount bracket is positioned so that the belt isn't held hostage. I guess technically you could just support the engine by only the oil pan if being careful when raising/lowering in order to remove one of the bracket bolts that requires raising the engine. Torquing those bolts though is something I'd prefer a little more security than just a jack under the pan.

Is Mike at 413 doing Mk7 TDI TB's? Last time I asked he said he hadn't yet, but that was a while back.
The MK7 is far too similar to the CBEA/CJAA to not be "able" to do them. The crank lock tool is the same, the cam gets pinned with the usual pin tool, and the HPFP uses the same pin.

I believe I repurposed my HemAHanger when I parted with my ALH but i suppose i could easily build another, but there is now obvious place to hook onto. How do folks that do Mk7 TB changes support the engine when the front bracke comes off? I agree it would be a little unnerving to adjust a floor jack when it's supporting the entire engine

Traveling long distance and having the shop work on a hot engine may not be 100% ideal. def verify if they'd like it dropped off the night before.

I've heard some good stuff from GTI/Golf TSI owners. Beyond that he said all the right things would be changed under a TB job out when i spoke with him.

There is a hole in the accessory bracket, right by the fuel pump. It's not perfect, but I supposed you could make it better by adding a secondary support on the turbo/exhaust side. That way the load is much more even.

The manual states, too, that the engine should be "cool" when setting the tensioner. So yeah - to "help" the shop get it done properly, I'd look to drop it off the night before if possible.

If you go ahead with the shop in Bow, I'd appreciate hearing what you think of them and their work. Thanks.

Don't think that's necessary. By the time they set up and remove everything, even a hot engine will probably be cool enough to touch. I'd only worry about burning oneself. There is a healthy margin in the tensionner setting.

$1050 at Sams Euro Shop in bow, can't complain. Calling around 4 different places saved about $600.

Fingers crossed many more trouble free miles.
