Does anyone out there have a link for a site that describes the step-by step procedure for a timing belt change on an A3 TDI? I am tired of paying $300 everytime. I will invest $250 into a vag com and bentley manual soon. This timing belt is the last frontier for me. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

Yes you can buy from metalnerd....he's the most reasonable and great quality! Only thing I'd want is a cam sprocket puller....and even though his A4 one is "the Bomb" it won't work on the A3/B4 engines.

You don't need a cam sprocket puller for the A3/B4... just a rubber mallet and a pin that fits through the hole on the back side of the sprocket towards the middle...

See this picture (from DBWs write up):

Just getting ready to do the timing belt on my Passat and have some questions.
Does the OBD tool do everything that the Vag Com does? It is quite a bit less expensive. Is there any advantage to one or the other?
Also, does Metalnerd have a website where I can oder the tools?

The software distributed with OBD Tool is VAG-COM. It's the "shareware" version you can download from the Ross Tech site. Once you register it with Ross Tech it can be enabled to do more once the registration code is entered.

Yes, Metalnerd has a site. See the Classifieds section to see pics of his tool selections and web site link.
