Timing Belt Change @ 96 Passat

Am approaching 180K on my '96 Passat TDI wagon and unfortunately missed the GTG @ MO. a couple of months ago. Now I am looking for a Timing belt savvy fellow TDI'er who wouldn't mind changing my TB/tensioner/etc. so that I know the job is done correctly. I'll even hand the tools to the master mechanic, buy the beer afterwards and of course pay for their time/technical skills.

I can travel 300+ miles from Memphis after the holidays, but just wanted to reach out to some of you fellow Vagcom/techno TDI gifted folks.

Appreciate the input, have a happy,

Mike

Might be a bit of a reach to head to Michigan, but the offer was much appreciated....

Every time I think about picking up a new Jetta GLS TDI wagon, I get behaind the wheel of the Passat and notice the front leg room, rear leg room and wagon space and put those thoughts aside.

Not quite frantic yet, but by mid Jan I'll be @ 179-180K and starting to get a little jumpy....

Anybody out there need some Christmas $$$???

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">We wouldn`t trade one of our B4 variants even up for a brand new A4 wagon, and we`d still have one left! There is jsut no comparison IMHO.

How far are you from N.C. Mike? There are some very competent and good folks up there who have GTGs quite often, perhaps you could find someone up there who could help.

How warm is there in mid-Jan? It might be worth the trip.

Get Old Navy to have another GTG. He's got a nice warm garage to do it in. If the date is right, I might be able to putter on over there depending on where I'm at in the Midwest at the time.

You noticed the "wink"
correct?
Since its a wagon...and they are virtually worthless and VW doesn't allow you to put a new belt on a Passat Wagon beyond 120K miles, I think you should take it on a final drive to Merrill MI. I'll put it to rest gently.

On a serious note....I physically can't do a T belt myself right now...(though if you want to give it away I could get my son or friends to help
) but If you wanted to drive this far and do a fair amount of the wrenching...its a faily easy job.

None now, .
Weekend of 18-20 it is.

Lonesome retired land locked sailors are always glad to have company, even if they hail from Missasloppy.
More the merrier.

Will be more than happy to put you two up for weekend, just let me know what flavor kool-aid to have in refreg.

And nothing wierd like you posted in another thread.

Weird? That's a fine genuine German brew.

Goes great with steaks, if you can find some without driving around all night.

If dupp can make it, let's do it. Sunday's best because it will take Saturday to get there.

No problem, I'm your basic heathern as they say here locally.

MOGolf if you want any of that "fine genuine German brew", you better bring it with you.
Remimber I live in that neather region between the Ozark Hills and swamplands of Southeast MO.

I don't know when "dupp" plans to be here, but if he doesn't head up till Sunday morning my car might be done by time he gets here. I haven't heard from him about when he plans to get here. So we will play it kind of by ear.

I haven't a clue as to how long this will take to do the belts. Never seen one done. I will go to dealer this Monday or Tuesday and pick up parts.

I may pick up a new wheel while I'm there. $179.20 for a standard alloy wheel. WOW!!! Could have been worse, could have been twice that much.

Or you could order a timing belt kit from dieselgeek. It will have everything needed.

Old navy,

Have a work committment Sat 1/18 but might be able to get there late the 18th and do the work the 19th. Might have to do some mega 450+mile driving but would be worth it to have th TB, tens, serp, dsl filter done correctly, plus I might learn something.

Will be in touch once I check final sched.

Sounds like fun.

Have a Happy Holiday,

Mike

Like I said the more the merrier.

oilhammer if you didn't live out in the sticks so far that they have to pump daylight to you, you would have gotten the emails I sent you son. So drag your tired butt
down to PB Sunday and stay away from open flames.

Good looks??? Jim I bet your mamma tied a porkchop around you neck as a kid so the dog would play with you.

Looking forward to seeing you guys Saturday night/Sunday morning, or whenever you drag in.

You should have paid closer attention to the emails from me O.H.,
I had a change of email address. Drop the w off the old one for the new address.

You probably been breathing too much the fumes at work from all those gassers.

I was hoping to keep this rather quiet because I don't have enough of the good stuff.
