Poor man's attempt at noise abatement. I had this ~3/8" standing mat that I wasn't using and used some 3m heavy duty spray adhesive to put it on top of my panzer skid plate. Seemed to help, but then, I'm highly motivated to think that it did! Also replaced the upper (small) air tube gasket off the turbo in attempt to address oil leak. However, I think the source was the air box connection above. (second photo) I'll open a thread on that question.

I got a couple cans of truck bed liner and sprayed my first skid plate with that. Worked quite well.

Replaced tandem pump and since I was there, coolant flange and temp sensor on daughter's Passat - strange failure as the vacuum portion of the pump failed but fuel side working fine. No smoking gun, but I will be tearing into the tandem pump to see what failed. Only had 248k miles, and no signs of leaking fuel. Also replaced head light bulb, 3 failed glow plugs, and washer bottle level sensor. The fluid sensor was contaminated from rain-x washer fluid and no longer sensed washer fluid.

So, over the weekend, I:
- Swapped out the "Spare" 6spd for the "Main" 6spd
- While I was in there, The coolant temp sensor sprung a small leak, so changed that out (so much easier with no transmission in the way.
-Found that the Tandem pump gasket was leaking oil slightly, and didn't want it to degrade the recently replaced coolant flange, so I set about replacing the gasket. found that the vacuum nipple was all kinds of loose, so I opted to just change the whole pump - the pump had 370,000km on it, so only a matter of time.
-Swapped out the starter for a rebuilt I had sitting on the shelf
-Replaced a torn driver's side CV boot.

I hate CV grease. :D

I have a torn CV boot - want to change it for me? :D Been avoiding it for a month now. Discovered it laying under the car in -30 up north.
I bought a spare boot kit- but you're running 130mm flanges aren't you?

Yes, still running the larger flanges. The other joint is the same (already replaced them when I did the swap). Which gearbox are the smaller ones from that bolt in to use the stock 5 speed axles?

I think it's 2000 ish and up 1.8t 6spd audi A4's but I don't know for sure - Chris in Kitchener supplied them for me.

you want me to call him - haven't talked to him in a year. :D

EDIT - think I found it 01E409355H - fits audi A4s in that range with the 6spd, some 100's, S6's etc.

It might just be time to buy a used set of 5 speed axles and change the flanges anyways. At least then the axles are easy to find here. Always been a bit worried about having to find inner joints on short notice.

Diagnosed my washer fluid resiviour leak, plastic line that runs from pump to wipers cracked between tank and body, going to fix with hose or vaccum line next weekend.

I put Audi S4 axles and flanges in my car. My O1E came with the 130mm flanges. I had Raxle redo my OEM S4 axles and I swapped flanges.

Let us know what you end up doing here. I just developed the exact same issue. Advance Auto had nothing useful last night so I'm in the market for a fix.

Technically, that's something that someone _else_ did to your B5 Passat today. Sorry though, is that just gonna be a swap of a new door from salvage yard?
Don't know, but there's also some damage to the quarter panel and wheel. I already heard from his insurance company and they assumed responsibility. I have an appointment with their body shop next Monday, so we'll see what they say. First major dent in 12 years...

Picked it up from the body shop. They repaired the door instead of replacing it and it looks like new. Perfect paint match and it comes with a lifetime warranty from Geico. I'll post a pic later.

Door looks good.

I actually drove mine today. Haven't been driving it much. Had to jump start it. Has a battery drain issue.
