Hello there Forum!

Chris here from VW of Langhorne in Langhorne, PA.
The VW RealDriver extended service contracts have changed as of Jan 01,2008
They have now combined the new car extension w/ the used car extension and have come up w/ one main plan.
They still have the same verbage in the new contract as far as coverages that will be explained here:

> Allthough I am open to all coverages, I would reccomend the Platinum
> coverage as it is an exclusionary warranty vs an inclusiuonary warranty!

>
> These quotes are w/ a std $100 deductible.
>
> Should you want a $50 deductible, please add an additional $270 + tax
>
>
The $100 std deductible is per visit, NOT per complaint!
>
> This extended service contract is valid at ANY VW dealer and the dealer
> gets
> paid thru their parts and warranty dept.
>
> This warranty is also valid at authorized shops and they get paid thru a
> credit card.
>
> You are never responsible for more then your deductible!
>
> If you cancel in the first 60 days, it is 100% refundable, after the 60
> days, it costs $50 and the plan will be pro-rated!
>
> To transfer the contract it costs $40!
>
> The warranties I sell are geuine VW warranties. I DO NOT deal in
> aftermarket
> warranty companies! The service contract is backed by VW and fascilitated
> thru Fidelity Warranty Services!

Here is where the plan differs from the last 4 years:
As of last year, the policy would start as of Jan 01 of the model year of your vehicle! It now starts as of the day you sign up for the contract.
Each quote I give is individual now as I have to log onto their website to retreive the quote. I will need the VIN# and the mileage of the vehicle to quote.
Here is an example of a quote I just performed for a fellow TDI Club member:{please keep in mind that rates and terms will be different based on age and miles of your vehicle}
2006 VW Jetta TDI w/ 34999 miles all mileage quoted is above this!
Platinum Plan
W/ std $100 deductible:
3 yr or 36k=$1354 + 6% pa sales tax=$1435.24
4 yr or 48k=$1519 + 6% pa sales tax=$1610.14
5yr or 60k=$1896 + 6% Pa sales tax=$2009.76
6yr or 72k=$2145 + 6% pa sales tax=$2273.70

Some quotes may have all these terms, some may not, again, it is determined by model year and miles on your vehicle!

Thank you for the opportunity to help you w/ your automotive needs and to EARN your business!

Chris - I realize every vehicle is separately quoted based on VIN, but are there max limitations on mileage above which VW will not issue the extended warranty?

Reason I ask is that I'm in the market to get an 05 or 06 used Jetta tdi and might be interested in an extended warranty, but don't want to shoot myself in the foot by purchasing a car that has too many miles to even be eligible for extended warranty.

Feel free to post reply or PM me.

Great question!

I can put an extended contract on a vehicle up to 80k, however, please keep in mind that the pricing is steeper the more miles there are!

Here is an example of what the VW RealDriver extended service contract could offer:

2006 VW Jetta

Note: time starts the day you sign up and the mileage is on top of the original 67k

Platinum Plan

Std $100 deductible

2yrs or 24k=$1818 + 6% pa tax=$1927.08

3yrs or 36k=$2186 + 6% pa tax=$2317.16

4yrs or 48k=$2578 + 6% pa tax=$2732.68

Not that bad in my opinion to be able to get Platinum coverage up to 115k!

One other way to look at it may be the fact that at the rate you are putting the miles on, will it have the time factor for these mechanical parts to go bad!!! Do you really need the contract!

LOTS of exclusion as usuall.....

Covers Axels but not CV boots.....umm......

And $100 PER Visit? With the number of visits it takes for them to fix the problem that could get mighty expensive for most people at MOST dealers. After 5 years as an F&I manager for a Toyota dealer I can say extended warranties aren't all they're cracked up to be.

Sorry, call it like I see it.

And since you AREN'T selling a car here this should be in the Vendors section.

Jason,
I can appreciate your thoughts and will admit that the extended service contracts are not for everyone.

I simply offer this as a service to my MANY clients on the TDIClub as an alternative to paying their local dealer $100's to $1000's more for the same contract I am willing to sell at wholesale figures.{this has also been successful selling clients NEW Tdi's on this venue at the same philosophy}

As far as the $100 per visit, it is not due when you walk in the door each time Jason, it is if they fix a mechanical breakdown of your vehicle! I was stating the fact that it woulkd be the same $100 even if you had 1-4 items covered at once.

The contracts I sell are extended service contracts that cover mechanical breakdowns. They are different then the extended warranty verbage!

If the site would like me to change this to the vendor section, someone please let me know!

Good clarification on the per charge but my point is they sometimes take several visits over many weeks and they "warranty companies" want to charge for each as a seperate "fix".

Jason, I think you would have an idea what it would cost to replace a DSG out of warranty, right? I've always considered that these warranties should be treated as catastrophic insurance such as some would treat a rather high deductible medical insurance policy. Example: I would get such a warranty at 59,999 miles and go for the longest and best coverage possible that way if the DSG goes or the turbo goes from the compressor side and hydrolocks, etc. Otherwise, you may as well salvage the fricken car. Know whadda mean? later!

The deductible is only paid once they make a repair. I had the tandem pump go out right before factory warranty was over (few hundred miles) and decided to get the extended service contract.

Took my car in last Thursday for a leaking fuel return line. Its the small 3-4 inch line that's between the tandem pump and the fuel temp. sensor. Dealer cost was $180 for the hose and had to be special ordered. I didn't pay anything then. I went back in today and once they got done I paid the $50 deductible.

It's good for when those big things go out or when you got something thats got alot of labor.

Thanks Chris!

EDIT:
Also, might help to call around before you purchase these kinda of services to get a feel for what is out there. I was pretty surprised with the quotes I got. :)

Why is there sales tax on a warranty? Given how the VW dealerships have been I have used I don't really think I want them doing any - well other than perhaps TSB recall fixes on my Jetta. I use a great indie VW only mechanic and have not been to the dealership in a long long time.

I do not know about warranty taxes, however, the PA tax I charge on my VW RealDriver extended service contrcats is mandatory by the state of PA. Allthough I do not agree and have gone to bat w/ them a few times, I have to charge it.

I do beleive this is up to each individual state!

A quick plug for Chris. I debated whether to get coverage, and once the made the new changes, I decided to go for it. I went with 3/36k Platinum coverage. Within a short time of getting it, I had 3 parts replaced and about 7 hours of labor, which has already paid for half the policy. I only paid the $100 deductible, and and when I needed help sorting things out (my dealer mistakenly billed me 2x for the deductible), I contacted Chris, and he took care of everything.

Thanks again Chris. BTW, I got my refund check from Fidelity about 4 days after you called.

Did Mr. B purchase his 04 TDI from Wild Rose Motors? If not, he will definately need that warranty he just purchased from you, eh?;) Just kidding! Later!

How much price difference is there between $100 and no deductible? Is there a $50 deductible as well?

Chris,

Do you have extended warranty pricing available for the new 90 TDI Sportwagens?
