... and blow away another diesel myth!
Almost all people on forums make others believe that diesel is only profitable on high mileage owners. NOT TRUE.

Here's the proof...

A canadian 2011 Jetta Sportline 2.5 costs $24 665 with a residual of $11 800. With an interest rate of 5.9% and an annual maximum of 16 0000km, the lease monthly payment on that car (48 months, no cashdown) is $404/month as per Volkswagen finance Canada.

The TDI Highline costs $28 020 with a resiual of $14 570 and, all other parameters being equal, costs $434/month. That's a difference of $30 a month between the 2 cars.

As I drive only 12 000 km per year I spent about $80 of gas per month on my last 2.5 Rabbit 2007. So I figured a VERY conservative $25 economy on gas with my new Jetta Highline.

Conclusion? For a leaser, if you take into account the gas economy, the Jetta TDI Highline costs $5 a month more than the Sportline. EVEN if you are a low mileage driver.

In other words about THE SAME!

Not bad for a car that is $3 500 more...And way better equipped!

In other words a new leased 2011 Jetta Sportline 2.5 costs:$404/month for a $ 24 665 car.

The Jetta TDI Highline costs $434 - $25/month gas economy = $409/month for a
$28 020 car.
