Let's try to be more specific about the results using a Poll. Vote only if you have the flash installed in your Passat TDI.

For the people who say their hesitation is gone completely, would you please elaborate?

Maybe it's not as great as we thought. Only 5 people so far have gotten it (according to the poll).

I voted 'pretty much the same or worse'. On Sunday I did the 20k service, and the snowscreen was unbelievably full of bugs, sand, and other crap... but lo-and-behold wifey reports last night that the car is running much better. Whether it's the ecu re-learning after the flash or just being able to breath a little easier, it's definitely running better than before. Still need to check/clean the EGR too.

Okay, a few more have posted on the other thread. Let's keep the poll updated. I still have not decided to have it done or not...

Wow...split right down the middle. 8 people voted with 2 for each entry. Holy Indecision.

about to have it done.

I'm going to try to schedule it this weekend. I just bought the 05 passat yesterday. I noticed the "hesitation" on my test drive a few days ago, and wasn't sure if it was caused by the last owner or if it was "standard". After looking here, I'll get the flash done too and report back.

Now if only I could find all the posts about the cool mods for this Passat (and people close to me that have the vag-com!). Like the mods that I've pretty much done on my 96!

- Norm
96 Passat TDI - Tons of mods - 233k and still going strong! - For Sale as of 10/13/2006!
05 Passat GLS TDI - Just got it! - Tons of mods to do!

I just had my 90K OC and inquired about the reflash, the service tech asked if I had noticed any hesitation issues. I was quite impressed that she was up to speed on this. I will have the ECU flashed as soon as I can shake loose enough time to do so.

Okay I just voted for the 2nd option. In normal traffic it is much better and funner to drive. For the foot down situation it is somewhat better in that it does react now at least. The engine spins up about the same as if you did 1/4 throttle for less than a second and then all hell breaks loose. Before, it did almost nothing for 1-2 seconds, which felt like an eternity. I'm glad I did it even though it was frustrating at the dealer shop.

still satisfied

It's been over a month and one half and I am satisfied. My continuing assessment is; that my wagon, no longer has the 'hesitation' (appr. one second), it moves off immediately, though not quickly, and then increasngly takes off, as the turbo spools up.

Much more subjective is the improved 'on the road' responsiveness. In my own situation, other factors have contributed to (perceived) 'improvement', eg; change to elf 507 oil, lower temps., ulsd etc.

Lastly, Dealer offered no resistance to under warranty reflash.

this car is wonderful --- len

one negative, the Michelin tires, they are nail magnets.

Like I posted in previous messages, I didn't notice too much of a difference except that I now have more engine noise coming into the cabin.... whether or not is the effect of this TSB or the combination of the TSB and tuning from ST or fact that this occurred after my last power steering rack job (warranty), is the question.

I got my dealer's service supervisor to acknowledge this increased noise in my car........ vs the used 2005 Passat TDI on their lot we test drove (they want $34k CDN for it!!! .... 30k KMs). He promised to look into it by contacting VW to see if the TSB could cause this!

Any response from VW?

Hey maktas - have you gotten any word from VW yet?

I know - I've got a Jetta - but this may be related down the road ...

Overall: Happy Camper

So, I had the re-flash about 3 weeks ago. I voted for completely satisfied.

What may or may not have been a hesitation from a stop is now 80%-100% gone. The low-RPM bucking/cutting out is gone. The trans. now shifts almost like I had a kit put in it. To me, it feels more agressive than it used to when I would do the key-on/throttle down thing to set it in Sport Mode. I still have to say that this cars transmission does not do it's job in as linear a fashion as did the same box in my 2000 Passat 1.8T gasser. I "feel" that the engine noise is a little more than it was before the re-flash, and the mileage seems to be off by about 1-2 mpg (other things being +/- egual). What I at first percieved as a little less "umph" in the 80-100 mph range, I now feel was simply a matter of a little too timid a foot.:D The dealer, Dublin VW in Dublin,CA, was new to me. I went to them and talked to the Service Manager about their doing the re-flash for me. Yes, he was aware of it. As a matter of fact, he posts TSB's and expects his techs. to look at them and know what they are about - possible pop-quiz to come... Yes they would be more than happy to do it if I had any of the appropriate issues. I got the impression from the Service Writer that it can cover a number of issues depending on the build date of the car. It is not just an EGR related bulletin. Cost to me: Zero. Parting comments from both the Svc. Mgr. and the Svc. Writer: We want our customers to be satisfied...

I waited for others to report and finally decided to get the code applied. I didn't have high expectations, but find myself very pleased with the new code. I've been driving a couple of days and decided to vote for compleatly satisfied.

The code has eliminated my chief complaint, the slight bucking, trailer-hitching at light throttle application.

This is more than I expected to ever get from VoA. I reccomend it to anyone experencing the trailer-hitching sensation.

I would estimate about 80% who did it are pleased and surprised. One of the 'No's retracted after cleaning his snow screen on his wife's car. Those are pretty good odds...

It should also be pointed out that no one who has had the flash had already had a rocketchip.

Sorry for the delay, the noise issue has been solved! They (VW techs) didn't install a boot of some sort (related to the P.S rack) properly and that was the problem. It took the VW rep (the guy that comes around monthly from VWoA, to tell them what the hell was wrong, and it was their own work all along!

Anyways, I am happy, for now.
