The Color Choices on the Jetaa TDI 2011 suck... kind of

I am coming from a mini cooper (now gone due to accident, their insurance is covering it). I am looking into the new 2011 TDI (Jetta, respectively). I hate almost all of the color choices (except, they also are attractive). I guess, I don't hate them, I just want something... flashier. I like silver, Dark gray, the black, and maybe the blue... have to see some of these in person.

I honestly think I would love the black with the light tan interior (what is it called again?). Maybe Dark Gray, or silver... I just know I don't want dark interior, because I like the light interior better... it is more nice IMO. So, with that choice being made, I suspect a darker exterior would be better.

Opinions are welcome!

I also want somethign that stays clean more often (since, I drive alot and my free time consists of when I sleep...) and looks sharp on the road. I also live in the country but drive to the city alot.

Opinions?

i had 06 black with tan int. Black got dirty too fast and inside, damm kid made it dirty too fast!

So my 2011 Jetta is gray w black int. Still dirty on the outside and the kid made the inside dirty as well! :)

Moral of the story, get rid of the kid and move to cali so there is no snow!

In your case, it should workout, but black car in texas would be too hot, no?

Yes, Cornsilk I think is the interior I was referring to. I love it. People say that gets dirty easy instead of dark interior, but to me, the dark interior just seems to make the interior seem less "nice"?

Yes, in Texas, it gets hot. We have two seasons: Summer, and Slightly colder Summer. (at least, down in South east Texas).

I kind of agree, everyone and their mother has silver. But also less scratches seen on silver, and it is more clean usually? I dunno, I guess I want the perfect color combo since I am getting such an awesome car.

Yes we have had the "cornsilk" for 2 years with candy white exterior. We absolutely love it. For a lot of reasons, it does make the interior look bigger than the (darker) black, med grey. If I were in TX or FL, I would definitely stay away from dark interiors and exteriors. Defacto that makes cornsilk the logical interior choice. Exterior, of the 8 colors, I would tend to favor: white, reflex silver, white gold metallic, toffee brown metallic, and in that order.

I personally think a white car is BORING. However, I will look at the white ogld metallic, I didn't know there was such a thing. The silver is nice, but everyone has silver... and black I suppose. Hmm, off to look at pictures!

Is the cornsilk interior much harder to keep clean, or as long as you don't spill and stuff it looks good?

Yeah, dirt is more noticeable on white, but if you take care of it usually it's not the problem.

From other hand white interior is not getting so hot. Don't like idea of frying a** every time I get in the car, but friends manage it somehow with black leather.

It is just a matter of personal preference. The rest is negligible difference and insurance premium for red color :D.

+1 for Candy White on Cornsilk

I got a 2010 JSW Candy White on Cornsilk - and I haven't regretted it for a second, even here in NH where roads are dirty & interiors gets sandy/salty in the winter. Cornsilk interior with the black carpets just looks and feels much better to me and is NOT hard to keep clean - mine looks brand new after 35,000 miles. The materials wipe down clean and easy with any reasonable choice of water and/or mild cleanser. And while the Candy White Exterior does show dirt, when its cleaned up its like my own personal limosine - very classy and poised. And all colors show dirt to some extent - balck and white included.

Platinum gray is an awesome color - but I wanted the cornsilk interior. Candy White was my Favorite - and still is.

Just washed last night after temps warmed up a little - cleaned up the road grime from the last blizzard.... :D

I truly am not trying to be the color police, actually dub dub 2 N--i. But you might try to borrow one of those laser aimed temperature guns and go to your dealership on a 105 degree and sunny TEXAS day and gun each color. Gun the interior cornsilk and black. Gun the interior temperature. Also you can probably surmise (as it really doesnt bang folks on the head) there is a longevity issue, as higher temperatures are not as kind to paint as lower temperatures. When you have a darker color it wears faster.

When I was getting quotes from all dealers couple weeks ago after test driving black JSW with cornsilk at one of them I was getting all sort of bull****:

* TDI does not come up with cornsilk at all
* JSW TDI always has roof
* other bull**** like black always come with black.

So... I got the best offer and called the dealer which had right car in stock and asked to match it, which he did within 2minutes...

Don't listen bull-crap - every dealer will tell you big story that this combination is impossible just to sell you the car from the lot. Just go to edmunds - see what are options on bare-bone TDI + what are extras and what are color choices (every permutation of interrior + exterrior is possible), get quotes from all dealers there - find the dealer with right color choices and ask him to match best offer you gathered meanwhile :)

p.s. google voice phone number rules for this as you can easy block losers later.

I did try that combination on the VW website, and it didn't work. Also, the dealer I was at understands I don't even know IF I will buy from them as I am looking at other cars, looking at used cars, and won't buy until I have insurance money from my claim.

So.... yeah they weren't trying to sell to me. Hehe.

VW TDI options are limited. :(

Yes, looks like you are right.
But you still have like 5 colors left:
white, black, blue and "white gold", "toffee brown" (this is very "untraditional" color offering though).

Don't be afraid of dark exterior color: heat from exterior panels goes up in the air, unlike heat from dark interior which gets trapped inside the car.

I want to find a white gold color and look to see if I like it... otherwise I am going with either blue or black with cornsilk beige interior.

So... boring?

So having a black car with tinted windows and cornsilk beige interior with Texas HEAT will not make car HOT?

tinted windows does wonders to the inside temp. black on tan is rare too, should be available in leatherette on the tdi highline.

but i like black tint on white car as it has a very nice contrast. and leaves a nice contrast for the red tail lights on white too.

I like the black on cornsilk beige here at the dealership... but again, the heat (since I don't know FOR SURE I will get tinted windows). I guess I will wait and see. I can't special order what I want cause then I get no deal...

I had black car with tint on windows in Sunny California :) for a few years (with white leather). Even in 100ish it was NOT hot inside.

Whatever heat is absorbed by body panels goes UP in the air. So as long as you can manage door handle (and even door handle is not getting very hot) you should be fine.

Interior color is more critical - whatever heat your seat gets absorbs - stays INSIDE the car.

Any car parked in the Texas sun is going to be topping 140F between June and August. Just crack your windows and buy a windshield shade (or cover the steering wheel with an old t-shirt/towel).

Was it 2008 or 2009 when San Antonio topped 100F for 65 days? That was a hell of a summer... I thanked the almighty employer every day I left the office for having enough covered parking for all 15k employees in the building.

I looked at a Platinum Gray Metallic and like it but it is a tad dark for South Florida. The salesdude showed me a chart that seemed to indicate that the White Gold is not available with black interior, only beige. I have to have dark interiors as light interiors don't work well with two small kids. With good tint, interior color is a non-issue down here. The current vehicle, an Odyssey Touring, has black leather and it is not bad at all - the tint does all the heat reduction one could ever with for.

They had a White Gold on the lot and it looks rather rich, nice color. I really wish they made something in the light to medium gray in a matted finish, that would be awesome. :)

white gold on black is in fact available. just use the vw.com build and price configurator. your sales dude is a dud. he's probably showing you a stock level chart of what is available.

OK, so if I go with cornsilk beige interior... which I like better then the dark leather interior... I am left with:

Metallic Brown
Gold/White Metallic
Candy White
Black
Blue Metallic

Out of those choices, I like the metallic Gold/White, Black, and Metallic Blue. And since I want contrast (not white on white dark on dark), I think I will go with black... maybe metallic blue. In your guys experience, which is easier to keep clean, re-sale color more desirable... ect, sharper and nicer?

i had a 2001 blue on tan and the tan was very easy to keep clean. the car looked mint on the inside because i cleaned it and maintained it

there is a lot of black in the new tan interior too, a good mix.

black on tan would be nice
as would white on tan.
all the rest is, meh. check out www.vw.ca for other photo galleries. they predominantly showcase black and white models.

White on tan is meh IMO because of the light exterior and light interior factor in my preference. I like the metallic blue because... well, I generally never wanted black. But, Black on cornsilk beige is actually really nice IMO.

i saw an Audi A5 with white on tan and it made me go for that combo with my car.

black on black is nice too, but i wasn't really happy with the anthracite light black color they chose for the jetta. but it works for me as an accent color to tan.

I had blue and black and white and red cars...

There is almost no correlation between color of the car and upkeep. I can clearly see dirt on any color, including grey which indeed masks dirt, but just very little bit (may be you can get extra day before washing or so).

One recommendation on color: pick the color YOU are going to LIKE. You are going to see this color VERY often :) If you are going to LIKE the car - keeping it clean is not an issue. If you don't like car (or "meh, it drives and that's ok") than you wouldn't care much about it and any exterior color will get dirty.

Resell value - why you are thinking on how somebody else (whom you never seen in your life!!!) will like the car YOU are buying for yourself? And it's hard to predict - what if in 3-5-7 years from now somebody will be searching really hard for 2011 jetta tdi with black or blue exterior.

For example, I had tough time on finding both black cars I have now. It was not a problem to get grey or white - every stealer had them on the lot. But blacks with white interior were little bit problematic to find in both cases.

p.s. Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black. H.Ford :D

I think I will go with the black exterior/cornsilk beige interior. Still deciding though. I KNOW I want the cornsilk beige INTERIOR because, I will spend most of my time IN the car. the only other serious contenders are the blue metallic and maybe the gold white metallic. Hell, even the Brown is NICE but... it's brown... so no.

Any car parked in the Texas sun is going to be topping 140F between June and August. Just crack your windows and buy a windshield shade (or cover the steering wheel with an old t-shirt/towel).
One pleasantly surprising feature the TDI sunroof has: the opaque sliding sunroof cover has vents in it. As soon as the heat starts up, I can crack the sunroof (tilt the controller back to cause the sunroof glass to open a half inch or so in the back) while the slider is closed. This should do a better and more secure job of venting the excess heat than cracking the windows.

Even though I got the Reflex Silver, I'll be using this a lot in the San Diego summer.
