After a couple of weeks lurking about the site I think I gleaned enough information to take the plunge--I took delivery of my JSW yesterday (Black on black, Sunroof, 17" Portos, MDI). You didn't scare me off, I know nobody bothers registering on these sites to post stuff like "Day 900, everything still OK".
So the first 100 miles:
Electronics are way too complicated to operate. It shouldn't take 2 days (I hope) to figure out the Radio, and why do I have to seek out a 3rd party to activate all the features of my 9W2 Bluetooth interface?
Wiper and Cruise controls are fiddley and weird. I guess I'll get used to them.
Unsatisfying exchange trying to Activate Sirius without having to wait for the "package".
Now, all that is forgiven because the car is a joy to drive. My only FWD experience was with Honda Civics and this is in a different league.
The clutch is light and has good feel. Despite longish throws, the gearbox is pleasant--positive and light, without the rubbery vagueness of the typical cable operated unit. Kudos to VW for even offering the Manual--most makers only offer one on base models (if at all).
Steering is precise, ride is supple yet controlled. All the right signals come through the wheel.
Finally, what can you say about the motor? Even my very tight, brand-new engine is robust, responsive and flexible. It never feels strained at all. First drive, tight motor, heavy traffic and some idling while I tried (unsuccessfully) to figure out the radio and I still got high 30s on the mileage gauge. I expect to get better.
So economy, without sacrificing performance. At a decent price. Nice.
