Anyway to find out what the VIN's were on those 10 cars? Mine is supposed to be delivered to Jacksonville Fl. This week.
Same here. My midnight blue metallic one is also in transit from factory to Vancouver, BC with expect delivery date of Feb. 6.

VW is ONLY producing TDI's right now. They have lots full of gassers and a backlog of TDI orders, so they switched production to exclusively TDIs. Have been producing only them since early December
.

How do you know this?

get ready to play all weekend driving and figuring out the features and reading the manual.
/\ This. Buried with features. I'm wondering if the system can be trained to have the remote lock button on the car to roll up the windows and sun roof, or the unlock button to roll down the windows? The VCDS guy would know for sure.

In late 1966, I saw the aftermath of a derailment that toppled a couple dozen rail cars loaded with brand new 1967 Chevy Impala's. All were SS models. I was 18 at the time and I remember looking at every one I could get close to as they sat in a vacant field by the derailment after they were removed from the wrecked rail cars. Many were SS 396 and 427 powered models with manual and auto trans. Seeing all those beautiful fastback Impalla SS with big block power and manual trans sitting there trashed broke my heart. The railroad used a loader and chains to peel the cars out of the debris piles. Most were destroyed as they were plucked out of the piles.

In those days the auto transport cars were open and cars and trucks being shipped were often vandalized while riding the rails to their new homes. Vandalized cars and trucks were fixed at dealers before being sold as new.

The same applies today. Shipping damage is mostly a thing of the past but it does still happen. And the cars are still sold as new after repairs.

I've worked several derailments of auto racks as an emergency response supervisor for a DOT. In every case, the vehicles were destroyed on-site by either the auto manufacturer or the insurer to ensure that nothing in them made it back into a vehicle from the factory. The most interesting was watching 24 auto racks loaded with new Nissan Pathfinders be destroyed alongside of an interstate highway. I don't see VW being any different.

10 is nothing, try 4700 - this made big news in Portland a few years ago.

Meanwhile, I have a few contacts at the plant in TN. The quality control is so strict that if a body piece is off by more than a few mm then the whole car is scrapped. Rest assured none of these cars will ever be sold. Sad, but good to see quality control is improving.

Wish they could scrap most of the dealers though....

They could solve that problem with online ordering and picking your car up yourself at the factory, after a tour.

So, when are you getting your new Passat? Plenty of room for kids in them, if you have a couple.

On a side note, I see you're from the Portland area too... yep, I agree whole heartedly. I had to deal with Herzog on our Volvo...and they were a disappointment with the Passat as well. I ended up driving clear to Seattle to get the specific car we wanted. We'll have it serviced at Armstrong but I don't have much confidence.

Yep, University VW in Seattle is willing to discount. Chaplin's in Bellevue WA was not. That is why I go to University and have now for four cars.

I am glad someone else pointed out that the insurance co will destroy the cars, the parts will not go to the used market. Sad this happened. But it's to be expected.
