I stayed up late last night and sent out RFPs to three hotels in two different areas. The ball is definitely rolling. :)
I wonder how the proposals are progressing?
PS, for those who are working on a proposal, please contact me directly. The planning document is currently being updated with feedback from this years fest and is required reading before submitting a proposal even for veteran organizers.:)
Even for sending out RFPs the document will be of assistance.

we can't even get a few people together to meet up somewhere and socialize:(....we also have casinos,Darien Lake theme park and a bunch of chicken wing places-and the Chicken Wing Fest is held Labor Day weekend.....
I know you've had problems getting a WNY GTG. Kinda stinks, eh? If I still lived in WNY I would have come to the WNY GTGs, but I escaped to the land of even higher taxes...

I haven't been to Darien Lake since I was a kid.

I would have done a proposal ...

but I'm too busy working to pay all the taxes they levy around here

Seriously, I plan on working with the Buffalo group in 3 years to bring a fest to Buffalo, NY if it doesn't get there sooner. My wife is in nursing school and I want to help her with that before committing to a fest.

And besides - would you really want a hyundai owner doing a VW fest? In two years or less we will have at least one TDI and possibly two.

south eastern USA. then I will be there

You're missing the point - you DRIVE to the Fest...it's not meant to come to you (unless you work for it!)

No worries, we got the preliminary document from Fred and things look pretty good... working on a couple of options and it looks like one has a lot of potential. :)

As a new TDI owner, I would love to attend one of these. Perhaps the TDI Fest rotation could be West Coast, East Coast, Central Plains, and then start over again. Just my two cents....

And the coldest I have ever been was on a 108F in the shade summer afternoon in Glendale (a PHX suburb). The relative humidity was about 5%.
I had just gotten out of my father-in-law's hot tub and the rapid evaporation rate chilled me far more than falling through ice on a sleeting winter evening back home ever did.

If there's a choice between hot and dry (Las Vegas, Phoenix) and hot and muggy (Houston) I'll take dry.

PHX has F1 (go cart) out there, and they have great roads up to the Colorado plateau. Where it's uber nice.

Chattanooga, TN! 70% of the American population live within a day's drive. Maybe get a big group tour of that shiny new VW factory?

It would be easy to figure out which exit to take... Volkswagen Drive off of I-75.
I would love to drive to Denver or St. Louis. The former is eye candy and the latter is close. But Chattanooga actually makes some sense. We can bring Amarok posters and chant 4Motion, 4Motion, 4Motion ;)

Cool places

San Francisco would probably be the coolest place to have the fest. The temperature would be between 65 and 75 degrees during the day with 50-60 degrees at night.

West coast isn't happening 2 years in a row........
Why not? Remember it isn't where the city is located, it's where the group with the best proposal is located.
If a west coast group comes up with a proposal that is more well thought out than any other proposal, then that settles it.

True enough, organization is key.

There is no shortage of great destinations, it all depends on what the organizers are capable of doing and how many people are able to get there.

My 2 cents:

Knoxville is not so far from Chattanooga and being a college town probably has plenty of venues for something like this, just in case Chattanooga can't be considered for some reason or other.

Anywhere in N. Carolina, Wilmington, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, is convenient to the South and Mid-Atlantic.

Little Rock is very scenic, lots of venues along the river and downtown, outdoors stuff, is driveable from Memphis, Dallas, Oklahoma City, it's a stretch but can be driven in a day from Kansas City and St. Louis, lots of nice hilly drives, good roads.

Not so many TDIs owners there, however.

Denver would be great, so would Ft. Collins and Co. Springs.

Carson City or someplace scenic would be preferable to Las Vegas, less expensive too.

So there are no shortage of locales that would be great. In the end, it comes down to what the organizers are capable of doing.

Just observing.

Believe it or not, Knoxville doesn't have any hotels that meets the needs of the club. I have looked, they either have conference space or parking space, but not both.

I've tried a couple of times to get interest going on a Denver fest but could never find enough local interest . I even asked the local VW clubs if they would like to take part a few years back and got a positive response . But in the end not enough interest from fellow Colorado TDIers showed up . But if something can be put together I'm there to help & take part .
