Folks, we've reached a decision... TDIFest will be in Sydney, Australia this year! Congrats to the secret Sydney team who planned all of this behind our backs! ;)

Man I'm bored at work... babysitting an orchestra on stage and hitting refresh on this thread every 5 minutes.

I'd better get going, then.

At least it's down hill, and mileage from the 'fest to get back home isn't considered.

Congratulations to the winning team !
Finally the West will have it's fest.
With Zippy on top, it sure will be great !

BTW, I'm afraid I won't be able to make it this year...
See what Google Maps came up with:

My string will be broken...............Have a great Fest!!
:( i hope that won't be the case for you tomo. It won't be the same without you!

Thank you to the Chicago group for their support. You are an incredible group of people to have put on the biggest fest in TDIclub history last year, only to turn around with the same energy and enthusiasm to put together another bid this year. well done.

It was a TDIclub first, 2 proposals submitted for 1 fest. We're glad to see that so many of you gave support to both bids. Best of luck to the Chicago group in the future. 2011 maybe?? :)

/me handshakes :)

It is a long trip to drive to Portland 2876 miles drive time 43:21. I have time to think about it.I hope it doesn't rain on that weekend.

One Way Street?

Wow, lots of East Coasters are planning on attending TDIFest 2010... why are there so few West Coasters attending TDIFests on the East Coast, or in the middle of the country?

If the fest were earlier in the summer I would certainly be to every single one. I'm a member of another organization (ALPCA) that has a convention each year in late June or July and I've been to each one since I joined in 1997. I've been to Niagara Falls twice, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Providence, Rhode Island, Peoria, Illinois, & Huntsville, Alabama to name a few. In fact I drove to the convention in Erie, Pennsylvania in June 2009, and I'll be heading to Arlington, Texas in July 2010. My wife and I are both school teachers so Labor Day weekend is the worst possible weekend for us to do any traveling. School always starts the Tuesday after, so we usually spend a good part of the weekend at school getting ready. The Portland Fest is likely the only one I will be able to attend until I retire. I CAN handle a 5.5 hour drive. So... it's not that I don't WANT to attend fests in other parts of the country... I DO... and I would! It just isn't possible for me on Labor Day weekend. I thoroughly enjoy the eastern USA... especially New England. In fact Wife & I nearly moved to Bennington, Vermont a few years ago. We decided we couldn't handle the pay cut... plus the winters are a bit exteme for us. So please come on out if you can. I'm sure you'll have a great time in PDX.

Cool! I've purchased YOM plates from a couple Ontario ALPCA members: Jonathan, and Eric. Our local club, uses them on our aircooler's. Those guys are a great resource. I attended the last meet in Georgetown this past spring. Great group of people.

Man, if the only reason you come to TDI fest is to win some trophy for your car I have pity on you.
I don't care for trophies, just making some suggestions to make the Fests and bigger. Keep it fresh.

Congrats to Portland. I won't be attending. Can't make 2 trips out there so close to each other. I'll be at the Bugorama in Las Vegas a few weeks afterwards.

The Bugorama show in LV is awesome! May i suggest a TDIfest in LV? GTG's at the Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, and the Grand Canyon? Don't forget the casinos and all the bright lights! :D

Honestly, because it's been closer to the east coast for so many years that us westerly people didnt understand what we were missing. I was awaken to TDIFest when I went out to DC for 2009.

Let's change that!!!

I'd like this to be a stepping stone for other regions around the country and world to step up and put something together.

I'm not stirring the pot, I'm making an observation about how things have happened year after year after year. Hopefully, things change now that you all are having a west coast Fest. :p

This is not an east VS west competition to see who will show up and whos fest is better. it's an east MEETS west gathering of people with similar interests, to forge connections, make friendships, network, etc. so I'd like to see people taking that into consideration and dropping the "our side is better than your side" point of view (I'm guilty of it too ) and be open to the endless possibilities that lay before us with this new link in events as well as previous events. We are a community of incredible people, I'd hate to see an involuntary competition and bias start to form because of this.

Don't get me wrong... this is absolutely not a competition. I love the pacific northwest, and I love DC... deciding where to settle down is a tough decision.

I think JetPuf nailed it, and I think that PDX Fest will pave the way for larger fests in the future (assuming everyone has a good time, which I'm sure they will).

Like I said before, I was just making an observation. ;)
