It's trivia like never before!
Do you think you're ready?
So you know the size of the wire gauge on the return springs for the rear drum brakes on a 1998 Jetta TDI?
And you know how many splines there are on the third gear input shaft on the 02J transmission?
And you know how many threads per inch on the 2004 B5.5 GL cloth seat fabric?
Big Deal! That won't help you this year.

Questions for this year are intentionally created to allow ANYONE to get the correct answer, but there may be twists. What you think is the right answer might actually be right, but not necessarily for the question being asked.
Get the answer right and gain a chance in the finals. Guess wrong and the chance you just blew is added to a pot that is awarded to the next correct answer. Strategic decisions on when to answer (early and get one chance if you're correct) and when to let others answer incorrectly first (to build up the pot) for you to swoop in to get your chance AND all of their blown chances in the pot, will be something you'll want to consider.

So what are the questions? Here are some examples of the types, but these examples won't be among the actual questions.

How many prior TDI fests have been held in states or provinces with a national border?

When equipped with the TDI engine in the North American market, the B4 Passats, and the A3 Jettas, were equipped with wheels having a 4x100 bolt pattern. What it the total number of wheel bolt holes in the wheels that were supplied with one of these cars?

The Touareg is named after a semi-nomadic tribe of the Sahara. How many letters are in the word 'Touareg'?

Prize winners will be selected by random drawing from all the correct answer chances. The more questions you answer correctly, and the bigger any pot of prior incorrect chances you can get assigned to you, the better your chances at the drawing.
So show up on time as the trivia event is scheduled to begin at 9 pm on Friday. The earlier you start playing the more questions you'll have a chance to answer.

Trivia Rules (as of 20:00 EDT 24 Aug.)

1) One ticket will be awarded for each question or partial question asked. Questions will be asked verbally. The ticket(s) will be awarded to the first person to correctly answer the question asked or being asked.

2) Participants will raise their hand when they think they know the answer to the question being asked. It is not necessary for the question to be finished, but the question will stop when the questioner recognizes that the first hand has gone up. It is the prospective respondent's responsibility to be sure that the questioner has seen the act of them raising their hand. If it isn't seen, it didn't happen. The person recognized by the questioner as the first hand-raiser will be the only person to provide an answer at that time.
a) If the answer is incorrect the ticket to have been awarded will be left blank, and held aside as a “roll-over” contribution to a jackpot. The same question, will be asked again from the start and the first to be recognized as raising a hand during or after the subsequent asking of the question gets to provide an answer. The same person that answered incorrectly can try again.
b) Each correct answer will result in that person's name being written on that question’s ticket and placed in a container for a random chance draw at the end of the trivia event.
Additionally, all the tickets, if any, in the “roll-over” jackpot from prior incorrect answer attempts will be assigned to the person that answered correctly and will be placed in the random chance drawing container. The quiz will then proceed to the next question.
c) If a question has not had an answer attempt within 10 seconds of it being asked in its entirety, the ticket for that question will be placed in the roll-over jackpot. The answer will be provided and the quiz will proceed to the next question.

3) If after the final question there are tickets in the roll-over jackpot and no correct answers to that final question, a ‘sudden-death’ generic question of a type that any participant could answer correctly will be asked.

4) A ticket will be randomly selected from all the tickets in the random chance drawing container and the person whose name is on the selected ticket will be deemed the winner of the trivia event.
If there are more than one prize available to be offered then additional ticket(s) will be drawn and the additional prize(s) will be awarded. Prize winning tickets will not be returned to the random draw container.

5) These rules and operation methods are expected to be valid at the time of the event but the organizers reserve the right to amend them as needed. The rules to be used will be announced immediately prior to the start of the event.

I foresee a problem - with Lug_Nut making the questions the collective score of the ENTIRE room will still be zero by the end of the night.

Could we switch to generic, bar-trivia format? e.g. Teams of 4 people, filling in answers on a piece of paper, then, after 10 questions they swap their with the table next to them, the answers are reviewed, sheets are scored and the scores are called out and updated after every 10 question round. 5 to ten rounds, maybe with round 10 being double points...

Prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd place...etc.

Nah, he did a good job mixing in some stuff that even those of us with little to no technical knowledge can get right. And while he put this together and added some (or many) questions of his own, there were contributions from other people here, I believe.

The format may seem a bit complicated at first, but it's not really. All you really need to know is that the more correct answers you have, the better chance you have of winning. While I sort of envisioned a more normal-bar-trivia-type-thing at first, I like that he went with this format. It gives people other than the walking TDI encyclopedias a chance to win.

Trivia will be held at the end of the meet & greet Friday night, I believe. If you might be interested in participating, please respond to this thread. It is not a binding registration, but we would like to know how many people we may be dealing with here. Of course, anyone is welcome (and encouraged) to join in that night. I hope we get a good crowd; I'm looking forward to learning a few new things from this! :)

No questions are from others this year. Everyone can play with no-one having an advantage of prior knowledge of the questions.
Almost everyone can figure out, or can guess, or already knows the answer to any question, you just need to know the question.
So come early to hear all of them and sit close to the front so you hear them before the sound travels to the back of the room.

Oops! Sorry for the misinformation. Too many things in my head to keep them all straight right now.
