i've only got an 500SL at this moment - I hope that i'll be able to install the rebuilt tranny sometime in the next few weeks.

Practically gave away the 350SDL - just couldn't find proper buyer.

Well I wanted a 350sdl but the engine frightened me......
Yup, totally valid. I tried a bunch of different oils to mitigate the consumption issue. I settled on Delo 400 15w40 - used a quart every 2500 miles. You wouldn't believe how bad the consumption was when i tried Mobil 1 ESP....

I have a spare 3.0 om603 in the garage, as well as a complete om606 that was ready to go in if I kept the car.

I almost bought a very nice 1997 s350 but it nailed so bad I was scared. I was like that could be an injector nailing or a bent rod not getting full compression. Plus it smoked like a freight train.

Saturday I picked up my new Mercedes 2014 E250 Bluetec sedan. X Wifey still driving the 2000 Beetle TDI 5 speed @ 100,000 miles, still going strong.

The 2014 doesn't have top IIHS crash test scores, only cars built after Jan 2014 (2015s) do. I'd take it back. Besides that I bought a 2015 E250 Bluetec about 3.5 months ago. Everything is great. I've been writing about it on the E250 Bluetec forum on the Non VW discussions thread. Aside from upgraded unibody and crash protection, my car is identical to yours. I'm sure you have been happy with it this last year and a half, correct?

Shouldn't that seal kit include coverage for the earlier ML's (W164) with the OM642? I have an '08 + '09 and as far as I know there isn't any difference (same turbo, manifold etc). If it cover the X164, shouldn't it cover the W164?
Yep, it should. Thanks for catching that! My eyes often glaze over when looking through the Mercedes model selections...

Ha! Thanks for fixing that. I have purchased many items from IDP (for the B5.5 Passat and now the ML's and E), I am sure I will grabbing this set. So much easier than digging through the EPC and finding all the part #'s myself.

Next up: Motive brake bleeder, trans service kit for the '08 and various filters.

Right, I've been debating asking Fred to start a Mercedes diesel section. There is a lot of great information, but it is scattered around a handful of forums - much less centrally located than TDIClub (minus the radicals at those other places :) )

Already have the oil cooler and full repair seal kit ready:
http://www.idparts.com/oil-cooler-seal-kit-om642-p-5146.html
Well I think I cursed myself on the oil cooler. I have a leak that isn't from the turbo and is getting worse. 2 kits ordered, one for each ML diesel (gonna happen to the other one eventually). :(

I am contemplating what to replace my Passat with as I am getting ready to retire it. I had been planning to get something VW, but I don't know what is going to happen with those guys, so I am now looking at diesel alternatives. I also think I would like a smallish SUV and think the GLK250 Bluetec would be nice. I noticed though that they are no longer offering that model. I would probably get a slightly used one anyway, but I wanted to ask you guys for an opinion. The ones they are offering now are bigger than I want. Are you happy with yours?

Yes. Only have about 10,000 miles on it, but getting better mileage than the official highway rating in general driving so far (~45% city/55% highway). More power than I expected after having a BMW 335d for 5 years.

Only complaint is tight rear seating.

I have become the latest card carrying member of the SSBO. Bought a 2015 CPO ML250 Bluetec last week. I am in awe of the ride, quietness, and economy. Totally smitten' with the new ride and the Distronic cruise control is amazing. Not getting the 40+ like in my 2013 Passat but got 32.6 mpg on the first tank. Computer has been giving me higher numbers on second tank - but will see when I fill up.

Gotta get my Passat to the detailer and ready to put up for sale. Needed more space for family trips and all the gear and no chance of a diesel Passat wagon hitting the US shores any time soon - if ever.

I am still enjoying my 2011 E350 bluetec though it ws in the shop Twice recently , oil pan gasked and now oil cooler seals. Thank god for extended warranty! I am averaging high 29 to 30 MPG. Car is comfortable and powerful. I just hope it ages gracefully as benz service is rediculously expensive. BTW, there is now a pending lawsuit from an owner regarding emissions being higher than epa limits when the vehicle operates in a temp range below about 50 degrees. They are hoping to have it turned into a class action suit.

I loved my W210 but then it got rust and once those get rust its all downhill. Make sure you don't let it even smell any salt.

Peter and Julie are fortunate, this car has had the preventive re-rustproofing done by a certified M-B specialist. This car is incredible. Cleanest W210 I've seen by far. Sorry, Dieseldorf. :)

The repair was a wallet stretcher. We are so happy that Jack took extra care of the "Big Unit".

Inspected and ready to run. The comment from the inspector was in essence, Dang it this just out of the factory? Cleanest 1999 EVAH.... Jacks 15 year of stewardship shows.
The Hamster on the dash YES Jack left the hamster because it fixes electrical gremlins....

Nice! Good upgrade to Ho5G. With the NMS and the W211 you have two great road trip cars!

Bumping this back up, I've found myself a new Benz that is worth our affection - the R-Class. I know other members will agree on the awesomeness of this thing - are you listening btcost, snowcub....

Roomy, 4motion, 3.0L V6 diesel engine. Great car. I bought a 2007 last year that I drove for about 14 months before getting a 2011. Photos to come.

Bought an 08 R350 4Matic gasser this weekend. The miles were good 81k, the condition was awesome, and the price was right 10,800 OTD. I debated getting a diesel, but the added complexity negates much of the advantage. Now I need to find a guru to help me maintain it.

what's the van?

A Sprinter. They've been selling them here since 2003. Certainly you've seen them. The first gen were either Dodge or Freightliner branded. Second gen were Dodge, Freightliner, then MB branded (when MB ditched ChryCo). They got a slight facelift in 2014.

Mine has the standard 2.1L turbo diesel 4 cyl. 163hp, bolted to a 7sp automatic. The 3.0L V6/5sp auto is optional.
