Thats a good looking car! I'd love to pick up a W126 after I'm done with the W116.

kind of a pipe dream, but one thing ive thought about for the future would be a vw 2.5L inline 5cyl edc15 engine to put in there instead, that way i could tune and upgrade it basically just like all my other VWs :s as well as a manual transmission of course. but i'm going to work thru the basics, get things running like factory (aside from adding intercooler). then work on figuring out how to bump up fuel and mess with timing/boost + 2.47 diff. probably going to take a while as i have too many other projects and things to do. we'll see lol sigh.

What auto-box would you be using?

it has the stock 4spd in it now, but i'll be puttin in a 2.47 + axles from a 380/560 - which from some quick reading should be hopefully bolt-on. ultimately i would want to get a manual transmission for it, but that's surely light years away from happening. if i can just get the basic maintenance done -- all rusty bits nipped in the bud and cleaned up, bushings, mounts, suspension, rework turbo + fmic, trans flush, brake flush, new exhaust or at least get the mid mufflers cut out, diff change + running nice -- i'll be happy. then figure out turning up the fuel/boost a bit and what sort of "tuning" can be done to it.

edit -- oh, and get the climate control stuff working and fix a couple windows, odds n ends

i have no idea lol. but it would definitely be a manual transmission from something and surely require some custom machined adapters (beyond my skills).

Yeah, that sounds like the way to go.

You could put an 01E, lock the integrated center diff and disable the front axle shafts, making it RWD only.

The longitudinal 2.5 I5 TDI is a natural complement to the 01E and came from the factory with that combination.
