Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't it a mile a minute? So, 60 miles = 60 minutes = 1 hour

So, a 5000 miles = 83.33 hours

Then 10,000 miles = 166.66 hours
He's talking average speed. 45 MPH is used as the average speed for which the 10K mile interval (220 hours) and 1.125 million mile (25,000 hours) life-span is calculated.

Hi everyone! I'm a noob on the VW scene and this site. I took a look at the totals and thought another perspective would be valuable on the UOA's. I re-sorted the results to be separated out by engine type. It brings to light some interesting stuff. Tell me what you think!

BTW, the 2006 Jetta TDI that I bought in August with 43k on it is sitting at the dealership as I type, waiting for new camshaft & parts. I popped the valve cover at 59k "just to be sure" I wasn't going to have a problem. VW is replacing it under warranty!!:D :D :D :D

I added the data from my 20,000-mile used oil analysis at Post #107.

For my 2009 CBEA engine, the "wear ratio" went from 14.7888 at 10,000 miles down to 11.678 at 20,000 miles.

Will someone be updating the full results on Page 1? It looks like the club average goes back to August 2009. Thank you!

Welcome aboard and enjoy the forum.

That's great but you forgot the BHW ENGINE.....a noob mistake?

To the person who reshuffled the data, forgive me but what do the spec metals readings represent?

Spec and Metals are different headings. Oil specs and wear metals.

Bob,
Thanks for clearing that up. Unfortunately I still am not sure what the metals number indicates. I'm used to seeing each metal described (Fe for example) with a number after each metal. Is this some type of total wear? Sorry to be so thick headed on this.

Thanks

Yes, I think you are right, total wear. It looks like the average amount of wear metals (iron, chromium, aluminum, copper, lead, tin and nickel).

I merely resorted the data found on the first post. I'll go back and see if I orphaned the BHW. (yeah, a noob mistake... I still can't keep 'em straight) I find it notable that the BRM data is so much higher on the VAG than the other models: 1.8x the ALH and 1.5x +/- the BEW. The API oil data for the BRM really doesn't mean anything, as the sample size was too low.

BTW, I stopped by the dealership today to see what weas going on with my car. They have had it since last Fri and didn't call. The cam job is done but now they are repalcing the DMF. I am soooo glad I pursued the shifting noise with 3 test drives with them!

I would have to say that this site has already saved me about $5 GRAND!!!!!!

I guess what your engine survey proves is simply this...the 2005.5 to 2006 BRM engines are eating cams and followers regardless of what oils are used, especially the VW recomended ones.
The BRM engines running non 505.01 oils are eating the cams a little slower.

looking for someone interested in taking over the UOA database. Changes in my life prohibit me from being available to maintain. I can email you the spreadsheets with formulas - its not to hard to do. You can repost the top section or maybe we can get a moderator to transfer the thread to you

I am sorry to all but it cannnot be helped at this time. My VW is running perfect and the bypass filter system is the best add on to any car. I will post more Uoa's in the future it will be another year for the last S9000 before switching to DME

Again the by pass is the best thing you can do for your VW - lots of oils are good. But with a bypass they become excellent. You can not believe how clean the oil stays past 10k.

Just an idea but I may be able to put together a website were we can log the data and run some queries against it for review. I.e. results by mileage, car, engine type, oil used, etc.

Food for thought.

A 10k interval is conservative with ULSD fuel, providing the soot concentration is reasonable.

Hey all,

I've been pondering this issue about putting this into a database where we can enter in the data and crunch the results by user, oil type, mileage, whatever.

Would it be possible to get about 5-10 records to test with? Perhaps different oils, users, etc.

Thanks,
Owen
