that auto tiptronic gearbox, is that the same as the DSG?
no, its a different transmission, but the tiptronic has proved much tougher than the 01M

I'm running a stage 1+ RC tune on the same car (my wife's) since June and it hasn't had any problems, of course she doesn't drive it the way I drive the std tranny with the same tune... nevertheless, no ill effects noted since June.

What's the O1M?

01M is the designation of the 4 speed automatic transmission that was in the tdi's from 99-03. Failure prone and expensive to fix.
Ah - here's hoping the '04 version holds up longer...

I do like that the '04 sport ed auto has 5 speeds - I find that at the very least, the tiptronic is handy for warming it up the car on cold morning (keeping it locked in 2nd or 3rd so it doesn't drop into 5th when coasting).

Never had that problem as I don't believe in VW's Auto transmission........

Well - I have the standard version as well, which I prefer, but I'm saying this automatic is ok.
